Launching Twice within 3 Months, Aerospace Department's Sounding Rocket Jessie Completed the Research Mission Successfully

On September 11th, at 6:49 a.m., the Department of Aerospace Engineering successfully launched the second research sounding rocket Jessie at the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC)'s "Short-Term Research Sounding Rocket Launch Site" in Hsuhai, Pingtung. This achievement marked the first team to complete two flights since the inauguration of the Hsuhai launch site. A delegation of 8 members from the Taiwan Transportation Safety Board (TTSB) also attended to observe this test launch.

Excellence Management Quality Award Site Inspection - Examining Our University's Management Performance

Since our university had applied for the 59th Excellence Management Quality Award to the Chinese Society for Quality, on September 12th, a site inspection was conducted at our Tamsui campus. The inspection was carried out by 3 evaluators: Professor Congxin Xu from the Department of Marketing and Logistics Management at Nankai University of Science and Technology, Supervisor of the Board of Chinese Society for Quality, Chuan-Mei Huang, and Adjunct Associate Professor Ling-Lang Tang from the College of Management at Yuan Ze University. Three vice presidents of our university, first-level supervisors, and contact persons of relevant units attended the evaluation. This award is designed to encourage organizations to utilize the "Excellence Management Performance Model" to enhance their operational performance, achieve organizational robustness, and promote sustainability. Over the past 58 years, it has been awarded 166 times, motivating and assisting both private and public enterprises in Taiwan to improve their product and service quality through the application of advanced quality management practices.

Escaping Certainty: Futurist Dr. Riel S. Miller to Deliver a Panda Lecture on the 22nd

The College of Education, funded by the "Tamkang Clament and Carrie Chair" (the Panda Lecture), has invited Dr. Riel S. Miller, who served as the Head of Foresight and Strategic Planning at UNESCO from 2012 to 2022. He will deliver a lecture titled "Escaping Certainty: Humanity, the Universe, and Anticipation as Liberation" on September 22nd at 10:10 AM at the Chang Yeo Lan International Conference Hall, Hsu Shou-Chien International Conference Center. The entire lecture will be delivered in English, with real-time English and Chinese subtitles available. All are welcome to register for the event. Risk Management & Insurance Department Alumna Shiu-Ling Huang Donates NT$ 20 million, Expecting to Award NT$ 200,000 to the Top Student in Each Grade

As our university's Department of Risk Management and Insurance, which is celebrating its 58th anniversary (formerly known as the Department of Insurance), has many outstanding alumni, this month, at the start of the academic year, retired teacher and alumna Shiu-Ling Huang has generously donated her personal savings of NT$ 20 million to establish the "RMi Scholarship" with the aim of giving back to her alma mater and nurturing talented insurance professionals. This scholarship is designed to attract excellent students to apply for the Risk Management and Insurance Department at our university. Chair of the department, Dr. Jyun-Ji Tien expressed that this scholarship is like a timely gift and provides significant encouragement to undergraduate students.

Turkish Alumni Ali Eymen Aykut & Ahmet Salih Aykut Donated the Proceeds from a Charity Sale

On February 6th of this year, Turkey experienced a severe earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8, resulting in significant disaster and substantial economic damage to the affected areas. Two Turkish alumni from our university, Ali Eymen Aykut and Ahmet Salih Aykut, who graduated from the Department of Diplomacy and International Relations this year, recently visited the earthquake-stricken areas in Turkey on behalf of Tamkang University. They donated the proceeds from a charity sale conducted on campus. During their visit, they met with and paid their respects to two mayors and a university president in the affected region, all of whom praised Tamkang University for its support.

Dr. Riel S. Miller, the Panda Lecturer of Education College: A Transcendent Interpretation of Escaping Certainty with An Astonishing Performance

The College of Education hosted the Tamkang Clement and Carrie Chair (the Panda Lecture) on September 22nd in the Chang Yeo Lan International Conference Hall of Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center. They have invited Dr. Riel S. Miller, the former Chief of Foresight and Strategic Planning at UNESCO from 2012 to 2022, to give a lecture titled “Escaping Certainty: Humanity, the Universe, and Anticipation as Liberation.” Dr. Miller encouraged the students and faculty in attendance to bravely “anticipate the future, imagine the future, and create the future.”

Recognition for All English Instruction: TKU Receive Grants from BEST Program Again

Our university is listed in the Ministry of Education's announcement on September 15th for the Program on Bilingual Education for Students in College (BEST) 2023. Both the College of International Affairs and the College of Business and Management have received subsidies as Key Cultivation Colleges, with a total budget of NT$ 8.82 million. The College of International Affairs has received this subsidy for the second time. The Principal Investigator and Vice President for International Affairs, Dr. Hsiao-Chuan Chen, stated that they will fully utilize the funding through the Center for English as a Medium of Instruction to accelerate the enhancement of English language proficiency for both teachers and students, aiming to cultivate talents that will contribute to enhancing the competitiveness of key national sectors or industries.

TKU Participates in the ESG GVM Common Good Circle, Advancing towards Sustainability Excellence

On September 7th, the establishment ceremony of the ESG GVM Common Good Circle founded by Global Views Monthly (GVM) Magazine took place at the Syntrend Show Exhibition Hall at the 12th floor of the Syntrend Creative Park. Our university was represented by the Chief Audit Executive and the Executive Secretary of the Center for Sustainable Development and Social Innovation (SDSI), Dr. Yen-Ling Lin. The event was attended by nearly 70 company and university members, and over 200 participants from the business, government, and academia. In the afternoon, the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Director of SDSI, Dr. Hui-Huang Hsu, attended the sharing session to hear about relevant exemplary cases.

Prof. Patrick Ziltener from the University of Zurich Delivered a Lecture at TKU

Professor Yen-Ling Lin from the Department of Economics of our university invited Dr. Patrick Ziltener, professor at the University of Zurich and board member at the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland, to visit our school on September 15th. Professor Ziltener delivered a lecture titled 'The Journey of Switzerland's Industrial and Economic Growth: What You Didn't Know About Switzerland.' At 1:00 PM, they visited Chairperson Flora Chia-I Chang to discuss potential opportunities for the 2 universities to establish a partner school relationship, engage in student exchanges, and foster academic collaboration in the future.

The 2023 Formosa International Poetry Festival: Autumn Breezes and Poetic Sentiments in Tamsui

The end of September in Tamsui is filled with poetry. Walking into the Tamsui MRT station, poetry lines are displayed everywhere on signboards and red brick walls, making visitors feel as if they are in a kingdom of poetry. These poems are authored by 45 poets from 12 countries, who were invited by the Tamsui Cultural Foundation. On the 21st, they gathered in Tamsui, where the autumn breeze rustled, to participate in the 2023 Tamsui Formosa International Poetry Festival. This event spans 7 days and includes local exploration, landscape poetry reading and writing, and cross-school intellectual exchange activities.
