TKU, FET, Microsoft Jointly Launch the 1st Cloud for Campus Sustainability in Taiwan
Tamkang University collaborates with Microsoft and FET to jointly create the nation's first cloud for sustainability. Tamkang, in strategic collaboration with Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET), and Microsoft Taiwan, built the “All-Cloud Smart Campus 2.0,” achieving outstanding result! On November 4, the “Inauguration Ceremony of TKU, Microsoft, and FET Collaborating to Create the Nation's First Cloud for Campus Sustainability” was held at Chang Yeo Lan International Conference Hall at Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center. President Huan-Chao Keh, 3 vice presidents, former presidents Yun-Shan Lin and Louis R. Chow, Microsoft Taiwan PS Lead Danny Chen, FET General Manager Chee Ching, Tamkang University Alumni Association Federation President Dennis Chen, TKU Departmental Alumni Association Headquarters President Tzu- Hua Chuang, TKU Alumni Association Headquarters Advisor Lawrence Lin, and various supervisors and colleagues from our university attended the event. The inauguration was jointly initiated by President Keh, Chee Ching, Danny Chen, Dennis Chen, Tzu-Hua Chuang, and Lawrence Lin.

TKU Celebrated its 73rd Anniversary, Joseph Wang was Conferred upon an Honorary Doctorate
Tamkang's 73rd-anniversary celebration ceremony was held at Shaomo Memorial Gymnasium on November 4, with President Huan-Chao Keh delivering the opening speech.

The university held its anniversary celebration on the 7th floor of Shao-Mo Memorial Gymnasium on November 4. President Huan-Chao Keh, Chairperson Flora Chia-I Chang, FET General Manager Chee Ching, Public Sector Business Group General Manager Danny Chen at Microsoft Taiwan, and President of the Tamkang University Worldwide Alumni Association, Hon. Dr. Dennis Chen delivered speeches. Over 3,000 people, including dignitaries, alumni, supervisors, faculty, and students, joined the celebration of the university's 73rd birthday.

The 90th Academic Affairs Meeting: President Keh Instructs Commitment to the Sustainable Tamkang and the Development for the Common Good

The 90th Academic Affairs Meeting took place on November 3 in the Chang Yeo Lan International Conference Hall of the Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center. The meeting was chaired by President Huan-Chao Keh, and attendees included Vice President for Academic Affairs Hui-Huang Hsu, Vice President for Administrative Affairs Chun-Hung Lin, Vice President for International Affairs Hsiao-Chuan Chen, as well as first-level supervisors, second-level academic administrative supervisors, and representatives of faculty and student. The meeting was conducted concurrently via video link between the Taipei and Lanyang campuses.

TKU, GVM & Fubon Life Jointly Advocate for the Grand River
The "Speak for the Grand River, Let the Tamsui River Stay Young" event took place at Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center, TKU.

On November 9, Tamkang University, Global Views Monthly Magazine (GVM), and Fubon Life jointly organized the "Speak for the Grand River, Let the Tamsui River Stay Young" event at the Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center on the Tamsui campus. Lien-Chou Yang, Deputy Director of the Tenth River Management Branch of the Water Resources Agency, Ministry of Economic Affairs, and environmental advocates for the Tamsui River attended the event to voice their support for river conservation in New Taipei City and environmental protection efforts.

TKU Excelled in the AI Application Competition, Securing 1/4 Awards

The final results of the "2023 AI Application Competition," organized by the Administration for Digital Industries of the Ministry of Digital Affairs, were announced on October 31. The team of teachers and students from our university, after 7 months of collaboration with various corporate partners in academia and industry, stood out in the fierce competition among AI talents across Taiwan, including IT companies, AI firms, and research teams. Among the winning teams for the 36 questions, they secured 9 questions, achieving an outstanding quarter of the award rate and winning a total prize of 2.4 million NT dollars.

[Engineering Department Panda Lecture] Small Data Generates Big Impact - Roy Maxion Urges Prudent Use of Data
Panda Lecture, Dr. Roy Maxion, Research Professor in the Department of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), emphasized the importance of seemingly insignificant data with a rigorous approach. He cautioned that small data can have a significant impact.

Dr. Roy Maxion, a professor in the Computer Science Department at Carnegie Mellon University (CMU), who gave a lecture as part of the Panda Lecture series at our school, presented his ongoing research on “Analyzing Information Data from Keyboard Input for Individualized Identification.” On the morning of November 14, in the Chang Yeo Lan International Conference Hall of Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center, he demonstrated the comparison of data collected in the laboratory and in real-world scenarios as part of the experiment. Dr. Maxion highlighted the concept of “bad data,” which arises from data collection equipment and can lead to significant misjudgments. He earnestly informed the audience that such misjudgments resulting from this data have impacted security systems using facial recognition, medical applications, and even court decisions. In his concluding slide, he reminded everyone of the importance of seemingly insignificant data, emphasizing that small data can have a substantial impact. He advised cautious, accurate, and careful data filtering, stating, “You may forget a few details...but they won’t forget you.”

Tamkang Honored with the CSQ Business Excellence Model Benchmark Prize
Our school has been honored with the 59th Benchmark Prize of Business Excellence Model by the Chinese Society for Quality. The award was received by President Huan-Chao Keh (left) on behalf of the university.

Congratulations to our school for once again being recognized for its operational excellence, receiving the Business Excellence Model Benchmark Prize at the 59th Annual Meeting of the Chinese Society for Quality (CSQ) and the 2023 International Symposium on Quality Management (ISQM) held on the morning of November 18 at the Hsu Shou-Chlien International Conference Center on Tamsui Campus. The award was received by President Huan-Chao Keh and Vice President for Administrative Affairs Chun-Hung Lin on behalf of the university, and they were presented with the trophy and certificate.

TKU Awarded the New Taipei City Low Carbon Campus Silver Goose Badge
Tamkang was awarded the New Taipei City Low Carbon Campus Silver Goose Badge, and Mr. Chun-Hao Chiu (on the right), representing the Environmental Safety Center of our university, received the award.

Tamkang’s efforts in promoting a low-carbon campus have once again been recognized. For the first time, in 2023, we participated in the “New Taipei City Low Carbon Campus Certification” organized by the Environmental Protection Department of the New Taipei City Government. After on-site inspections by the review committee, we were awarded the “Silver Goose Badge.” On the morning of November 13, at the New Taipei City Government Auditorium, Mr. Chun-Hao Chiu, representing the Environmental Safety Center of our university, accepted the award from Commissioner Da-Wei Cheng of the Environmental Protection department.

Publishing Center 2023 New Book Exhibition: Poetry, Literature, and Science Showcased

"The creativity of Tamkang students, whether in words or images, is excellent. The Publishing Center can present it in its entirety through books. In addition to sharing with more people, it is also an important memory for students to preserve in their lives." Dean of Research and Development Hung-Chung Hsueh believes that the Publishing Center plays a very important role at Tamkang University. He also encourages faculty, students, and alumni to discuss cooperation matters and jointly build more beautiful memories of Tamkang.

Murakami Haruki Center Celebrates Murakami’s Award with an Intellectually Guided Reading
Center for Murakami Haruki Studies interprets the charm of Haruki Murakami's novels from a scholarly perspective, using first-hand materials.

On November 15, the Center for Murakami Haruki Studies in Tamkang University held an intellectual reading event in the reading area on the 2nd floor of the library, inviting faculty and students who love Haruki Murakami to celebrate his receipt of the Princess of Asturias Award in Spain. The event featured insights from core members of the Murakami Haruki Center, including Director Chiu-Kuei Tzeng, Associate Director Chia-Lin Wang, Associate Professor Ling Yeh, and Assistant Professor Higuchi Tatsuroh. They provided scholarly perspectives for over 20 readers present, interpreting the charm of Haruki Murakami's novels with first-hand information.
