PRESIDENT CHANG INSPECT LANYANG CAMPUS CONSTRUCTION ON TIME REQUIRED

OVERSEAS STUDENTS MORE THAN 100

This academic year, Tamkang receives 104 overseas students from Europe, Asia, America and Africa. Among the 47 graduates and 57 undergraduates, 30 are exchange students from sister universities and do not study for degrees here, while the other 74 do.

SIX TEACHERS PROMOTED THIS SEMESTER

According to the administrative announcement (August 1, 2005), there are six teachers promoted this semester. Among them, four are promoted from associate professor to full professor, including Professor Chang Cheng-liang (Dept. of Chemical and Materials Engineering), Hsieh Ching-tang (Dept. of Electrical Engineering), Chen Ching-hsian (Dept. of Aerospace Engineering), and Wu Chin-chuan (Dept. of Statistics), and two are from assistant professor to associate professor, including Professor Jou Chi-chang (Dept. of Information Management ), and Chang Ching-gwo (Dept. of Russian).

DISCUSSING ASSIGNMENT THROUGH CYBER CLASSROOM: STUDENTS APPRECIATES THE TEACHING PLATFORMS

To increase the efficiency of learning, TKU has urged teachers to use “Teaching Resources Platform.” In addition to the school-hosted platforms, some departments, including Department of Information Engineering Management, Educational Technology, and The Center for Teacher Education have hosted their platforms, websites, or FTP sever for uploading assignment and downloading handouts, and are widely appreciated by students.

CONFERENCE ON THE JAPANESE-FAR EASTERN RELATION UNDER THE CONDITIONS OF GLOBALIZATION

Department of Japanese will host “Conference on the Japanese-Far Eastern Relation under the Conditions of Globalization and Democracy” at Ching Sheng International Conference Hall, on Oct. 28, 2005. The speakers include Lo Hu-chuan, Director of East Asia Relations Commission, Huang Tien-ling, National System Consultant, and two Consultants to the Office of the President, Tseng Yuan-hsian, and Chen Chi-sheng. Noted Consultant to the Office of the President, Mr. Ku Kuan-min will host the conference.

ENGLISH IMPROVEMENT COURSES OFFERED BY DOCE

The Division of Continuing Education(DOCE) has opened English courses with 9 different categories, including “Learning English from Movies”, a lively and energetic learning style, so that different cultures can be learned and encountered from different movies. “VOYAGE OF CHENG HO” TO BE EXHIBITED IN THE MARITIME MUSEUM

To celebrate Tamkang’s 55th anniversary, the Maritime Museum will have a special exhibition, “600th Anniversary of the Voyage of Cheng Ho”, from November 5th to 30th. Various ship models, including the “Treasure Fleet” of Cheng Ho, maps of and a series of posters about his seven voyages will be displayed.

DEPT. OF ARCHITECTURE PROCEEDS TAIWAN DESIGN EXPO 2005

The senior and graduate students of Dept. of Architecture participate in the “3rd Taiwan Design Expo: Discover the New Home in Asia” with their six boat models. The exhibition takes place from Oct. 15 to 30 at Wei-Wu Camp, Kaohsiung. After the exhibition, these six models will be placed at TKU campus for students to appreciate.

SEVEN STUDENTS GO TO THE PH.D. PROGRAM STRAIGHT FROM THE MASTERS THIS YEAR

Announced by Office of Academic Affairs, seven graduate students of Master program become the members of Ph.D. program because of their good grades, which is the best record in recent years. These students include Chang Hsao-chi (Dept. of Chinese), Lin Hui-chen (Dept. of Chinese), Ou Yu-chen (Dept. of Mechanical and Electro-Mechanical Engineering), Chen Chun-chieh (Dept. of Mechanical and Electro-Mechanical Engineering), Chen Huang-chin (Dept. of Physics), Chang Shen-wen (Dept. of Computer Science and Information Engineering), and Fu Peng-chuan (Dept. of Management Science).
