TKU Teachers Awarded for Excellence

【Tamkang Times】The 2014-15 Premium Teachers, Excellent Teachers and Excellent Teaching Material Awards name list is published. 7 teachers received the Premium Teacher’s Award, receiving a 10,000 NT bonus per month: Assistant Professor of the Department of Information and Communication, Jyh-ming Yang, Professor of the Department of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering, Po-chien Lu, Professor of the Department of English, Yi-wu Chen, Associate Professor of the Graduate Institute of International Affairs and Strategic Studies, Assistant Professor of Curriculum, Yueh-hsia Chang and Assistant Professor of the Department of Innovative Information and Technology, Liu Chu.

TKU Lights up with the Christmas Spirit

【Yi-mei Chen, Tamsui Campus Report】The footsteps of Christmas joy can be heard as the winter season begins to warm our hearts with the holiday spirit. TV shows and movies also change in step with the spirit of Christmas in order to meet with the fans’ need of romantic imagery and Tamkang University is no exception when it comes to creating the Christmas vibe. Recently, large Christmas trees can be scene spread throughout the campus along with lights and colorful decorations. The students and teachers haven’t been intimidated by the cold weather as they enjoy the scenery and savor the moment taking pictures. All of these warm feelings are being made into memories in on Dec. 9, at the “Good Words and Blessed Year,” event. President Chang expressed, “For the year 2016, we are faced with difficulties involving global warming, safety and economic challenges, but no matter how the world changes, we will celebrate the 66th year of TKU joyfully.”

TKU Receives Senator of the Republic of Guatemala

On Dec. 9 Ambassador and Senator of the Republic of Guatemala, Miriam Lissette Pineda Chinchilla (center of bottom photo) and 4 guests came to visit the College of Foreign Languages and Literature. Dean of the department, Hsiao-chuan Chen (on the left in bottom photo), welcomed them while giving a tour of the many unique features of Tamkang University campus. During the visit, Hsiao-chuan Chen explained the many efforts that the university has undergone in order to cultivate diplomatic, business and literature skills in students.

【Hong-wei Lu, Tamsui Campus Report】The College of Engineering and the Division of Engineering of Tohoku University in Japan held a ceremony, officially signing a new exchange agreement on Dec. 10. Dean of the College of Engineering, Chii-dong Ho and Tohoku University’s Director of International Affairs, Qiang Chen, signed the contract as Dean of the College of Science, Zi-cong Zhou and Director of the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, Shiunn-jang Chern, and other professors participated together in the event.

TKU Helps Spread Japanese Literature

【Hui-ping Liu, Tamsui Campus Report】Director of the Center for Murakamiharuki Studies in Tamkang University(CMSTKU), Chiu-kuei Tseng, travelled to Senshu University in Japan to give a lecture, distributing 4 articles on Dec. 12. Chiu-kuei Tseng and Professor of Hosei University’s International Cultural Department, Kawamura Minato, both gave lectures, comparing the difference of the cultural development and the effects it’s had on Japan and Taiwan.

【Shao-qi Zhang, Tamsui Campus Report】The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering held the 2015 Asia Wireless Power Conversion International Conference on Dec.10 and 11 in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall. Guests and educators of the field arrived from Japan, America, and China. All together, there were around 100 people in attendance. President Flora Chia-I Chang expressed in her welcoming speech, “I hope that this conference and the professional lectures therein, will improve our understanding of wireless power and give us new concepts of innovation for the future.”

TKU’s Macao Alumni Association

【Kai-jun Lin, Tamsui Campus Report】Tamkang University’s Macao Alumni Association held a conference on Dec. 6 (Sunday) at the Golden Dragon Macau Hotel. The event was headed by President Flora Chia-I Chang, Vice President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai, Dean of the College of Business and Management, Chien-liang Chiu and Executive Director of the Office of Alumni Services and Resources Development, Chun-young Perng. All together there were around a hundred participants in the warm and welcoming activity that began with President Chang expressing congratulations to the alumni association for their continual progress in university development.
