TAMKANG STUDENTS TO EARN CHIP TECHNOLOGY CERTIFICATE

The Application and Management of Computer Chip Technology (IC) Program, joint-organized by the Ministry of Education (MOE) and six universities in Taiwan, held a presentation and exhibition last month (May 29th) at Tsing Hua university (one of the organizers) to discuss issues of sharing high-tech know-how and the commercial application of such a technology. Students on the program used this opportunity to exhibit their works, which won the approval of MOE.

This program is a relatively new project run jointly by Tamkang, National Taiwan University, National Tsing Hua University, National Chiao Tung University, National Cheng-Kung University and National Sun Yat-sen University together with MOE. This year, for the first time, there will be over 30 students from these above universities to complete the program and earn a certificate that will launch them into an enterprising world of technology. The presentation on May 29th was used as a platform to introduce these students to related industries so that both sides can come to a better judgment concerning the supply and demand for future market.

For this purpose, experts in Taiwan’s leading IC production and research companies as well as institutes were invited to give talks on current and future development in this field. Students about to complete the program also exhibited the projects they have been working on. Students from Tamkang presented 7 various project works, and one of them being that of Lin Jia-hong, a junior at the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering at TKU, that is about “fingerprinting” technology. He is very excited about the opportunity of participating in the program and the prospect of landing on a job of his dream when he finishes his studies. He is also proud that Tamkang students have had no problem in keep up with those from the national universities throughout the program as they all started from zero in this very state-of-the-art technology so that any edge those students may have had over them before the program did not work at all.
