STUDENT CLUBS WON NATIONAL AWARDS

Tamkang Recreational Activity Counseling Club won an Outstanding Award and Tamkang Chorus won an Excellence Award in the 2009 National College Student Club Evaluation and Observation held at Hungkuang University by MOE. 290 college student clubs participated and the competition was fierce. The evaluation by MOE gave three kinds of awards: the Outstanding, the Excellent and the Very Good. Tamkang Recreational Activity Counseling Club won an Outstanding Award Trophy and NT$10,000, and Tamkang Chorus won an Excellent Award Trophy and NT$5,000.

Extracurricular Activity Guidance Section Coordinator Fei-hsin Lee said that TKU had recommended clubs according to their performances. Tamkang Recreational Activity Counseling Club had won the National Outstanding Award twice and it had won the first place in the university for many times. Last year it even won the “Glory of Recreation Guidance Award” by the Chinese Recreation Guidance Association. The Director of Tamkang Recreational Activity Counseling Club Ching-fang Li expressed that the evaluation report included organizational operation, management methods, financial handling, performance achievements, service learning, characteristic activities, etc. All the information details were carefully recorded by activity participating members who had also spent a lot of time in organizing the information materials for the report. Thus the Award was due to the great efforts of all club members. During the entire March, each member did several persons’ work and prepared about 20 copies of evaluation information materials. It was hard but worth doing it.

Tamkang Recreational Activity Counseling Club established in 1997 and is 12 years old now. The Club focuses on team recreation, the art of designing, singing and dancing, drama performance and activity planning abilities. It often invites renowned lecturers to give lessons. During the summer and winter vacations, they also organize camp activities in different elementary schools, helping children learn new things in recreational activities. In the past they organized camp activities at Jhuwei Elementary School and Tian Sheng Elementary School in Tamsui, but during the last winter vacation, they organized a 4-day camp program at Syue Jin Elementary School in Yilan County. Combining the theme of travelling around the world, they guided the children to learn various customs and cultures of different countries. They had new experiences in an unfamiliar environment and learned to manage everything more carefully, but they obtained stronger team harmony.

With a long history of 58 years, Tamkang Chorus has a complete organizational system, actively goes out to give performances and has achieved quite attractive results. They have won the National Sun Yat-sen Gold Voice Cup twice and devoted themselves to serving secondary and elementary students. The Director, Water Resources and Environmental Engineering junior, Yan-xun Li said that through the evaluation and observation, they learned a great deal, knowing that they should not only keep the club’s tradition but also unceasingly try new innovation and make new progress. The Chorus’ secretary, English sophomore Gui-jun Pan expressed that the club would train leaders, and senior members should help junior ones. Everyone should learn POP, plan writing, and help others. She smilingly said, “We’ll try all our best to win the TKU Outstanding Award!” ( ~Dean X. Wang )
