Taipei Okinawa Higher Education Conference Ponders on Globalization

【Reported by Yan-ling Chen, Tamkang Times】The Ministry of Education’s Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan held the second annual “Taipei Okinawa Higher Education Conference” in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall on December 18th for the promotion of a higher learning exchange between Taipei and Okinawa. The participants included the Department of Education’s Political Deputy Minister, Pi-twan Huang, Chairperson of the Osaka University Committee, Takashi Inoue, 12 Universities from overseas with 8 international university presidents, 9 national university presidents including President Flora Chia-I Chang. Adding the number of the vice presidents and the members of the Foundation for International Cooperation in Higher Education of Taiwan, the event had a total of around 80 people.

Pi-twan Huang stated, “ I hope that in addition to having an academic exchange that we could also have an opportunity for a close international exchange between enterprises.” The main theme of the lecture at this conference was the “Current Strategies of Taiwanese Education and Globalization,” which was divided into 4 components: Higher Learning Educational Strategies, The Current Situation of Education and Globalization, Solving Educational Problems, the Future View of Top Quality Higher Learning.

President Chang stated, “Currently this foundation has over 100 schools so it is impossible to avoid globalization. Let’s utilize this opportunity to combine our efforts and work together to create a mutually beneficial platform for our student exchange.
