A Forum is Opened to Discuss the Intense Situation in Ukraine

【Reported by Ya-xuan Ji, Tamkang Times】The College of International Studies held a forum titled, “A Look Into the Tense Situation Between Ukraine and Russia.” There were 30 members in attendance including Vice President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai, Dean of the Graduate Institute of European Studies, Chiu-ching Kuo, Former Taiwanese and Russian Ambassador, Su-yih Chiang, Professor from the Graduate Department of European Studies, Alexander Pisarev, Assistant Professor of the Graduate Department of European Studies, Tsui Lin and Assistant Professor from the Department of Global Politics and Economics, Chin-mo Cheng.

Chiu-ching Kuo stated, “This forum was created because everyone has their own opinion about this incident which allows us to learn from a diversity of voices.” The incident between Ukraine and Russia has involved America as well as all of the countries in the European Union. It has raised everyone’s concerns and people are hopeful for a peace resolution that can avoid war. During the forum, many of the students expressed their heartfelt opinions about the situation. The international students were especially concerned about the crisis. Chin-mo Cheng stated, “Everyone should be paying close attention to this crisis in Ukraine because the result will have a direct impact on the prices of gold and oil, which will control the flow of the market.” One of the Russian Professors mentioned that people need to see this situation from more than just a Western perspective in order to understand the situation more completely.
