Chemistry Department and FOCI Signed a MOU for Industry-Academia Collaboration

On March 30th, the Department of Chemistry at our university signed a MOU for industry-academia collaboration and talent development with FOCI Fiber Optic Communications Inc. The signing ceremony was held in Chung-ling Chemistry Hall. The MOU was signed by Assistant Professor Chung-Hung Hsieh on behalf of the Department of Chemistry, and Mr. Jeffrey Wang, Vice President of FOCI. In the future, both parties will collaborate long-term to implement talent development programs and conduct research and industry-academia cooperation together with faculty and students from the Department of Chemistry. Professors Bo-Cheng Wang and Professor Chih-Hsin Chen from the Department of Chemistry also participated in the signing ceremony.

Before signing the MOU, Dr. Chung-Hung Hsieh guided Mr. Jeffrey Wang and Mr. Kenneth Wei, Vice President of R&D Department of FOCI, through the laboratories of the Chemistry Department and the Instrumentation Center at Chemistry Hall. Both of them praised the well-equipped laboratories and the scale of them. FOCI is a listed company that primarily engages in the development and manufacturing of products related to the optical fiber communication industry. It is recognized as a pioneer in fiber optic interconnect, FBT (Fused Biconic Taper), and PLC (Planar Lightwave Circuit) technology development in Taiwan.

Dr. Yau-Hung Chen, Chair of Chemistry Department, expressed great joy in signing the MOU with FOCI, and looks forward to working together in the future to create a win-win situation for both parties and for the employment prospects of students. This industry-academia collaboration allows students to understand the talent needs of the industry and the knowledge they need to possess, so that they can plan their future career development and find the right fit. Dr. Chung-Hung Hsieh explained that currently corresponding projects are being identified, and he looks forward to conducting academic research together in the future.

Mr. Jeffrey Wang looks forward to entrusting the research and development of chemistry-related materials to our school's faculty and engaging in a mutually trusting and beneficial cooperation. He expressed that the industry is in great need of experts in chemistry, and FOCI requires understanding of chemical materials. He hopes for practical collaboration between the school and the company, which can provide a starting point for students. "As long as they are talented individuals, the company has needs in various aspects of development."
