2013 Tamkang University Commencement

At 10am on Saturday, 15th June, the 2013 Tamkang University Commencement Ceremony was held at the TKU Shao-Mo Memorial Gymnasium, Tamsui Campus. The theme of this year’s Commencement was “Moral and Integrity: the Pride of Tamkang University”.

Successful TKU Alumni Share Their Stories

Department of Management Science alumnus Hsu Hang-Chien recently donated NT $120 million to his alma mater, Tamkang University, to help build the Shou Chien International Conference Hall, named in honor of his father. News of the donation quickly spread and at the end of May, Hsu was interviewed by a number of well-known magazines, such as the China Times, Business Weekly, and others. In the interviews, Hsu described his path to investment and financial success and his experience in investing in shares.

The 2013 National Environmental Education Award

After passing the secondary and final evaluations held by external reviewers, TKU recently received an Award of Excellence for placing within the final six entrants in the first National Environmental Education Award. TKU is scheduled to receive the award at an award ceremony to be held June 23, at which the Dean of General Affairs, Luo Shiaw Shyan, will accept the honor on Tamkang’s behalf.

TKU Receives 5 million in Research Grants

Recently, TKU’s College of Foreign Languages and Literatures and its Department of English separately applied for research grants under the National Science Council’s subsidy program for humanities and social science research books. The theme of one of the projects explored original works and translation discourses of famous literature around the world. The project host is the Dean of the College of Foreign Languages and Literatures, Dr. Wu Hsi-Deh. The project received a little over NT $3 million in funding.

In the second semester of the 2012 – 2013 academic year, the scope of the Professional Competency and Service Learning Program mushroomed to encompass 34 separate courses, 33 faculty members, and a total of over 1,400 students. Each department organized semester-long service learning courses to correlate with its own specialized discipline and carried out such courses in the local community or in collaboration with non-profit organizations.

TKU’s soccer team represents a vast mix of races and cultures, with members coming from eight separate countries. The team’s history reaches almost as far back as Tamkang’s, as it celebrates its 60th anniversary this year. From its inception to the present day, countless soccer enthusiasts from numerous countries have proudly donned its jersey. And as the current academic year comes to an end, TKU will farewell four more of its former stars, as they graduate and go on to build their professional careers.

On Sat 8th June, Commencement was held at the TKU Lanyang Campus. This year, 183 students from 4 departments graduated in a lively ceremony that was conducted entirely in English.

A Touching Farewell for the Blind and Visually Impaired

At 6:30pm on June 13, the Center of Resources for the Blind held a Farewell Dinner Banquet for all graduating blind and visually impaired students. The Banquet was attended by both graduating students and students in lower grades who are not yet set to graduate.

The Director of the Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center, Dr. Chang Ben-Hang, recently held a gathering with many of Taiwan’s leading artists and social dignitaries. It was attended by the Vice President of the Republic of China, Wu Den-yih; the President of TKU, Dr. Flora Chia-I Chang; the TKU Vice President for Administrative Affairs, Dr. Po-Yuan Kao, and many other leading figures from Taiwan and Hong Kong.
