18 Department Heads Take Over for 2013 Academic Year
The handover ceremony for new department heads was held in the Chueh-Sheng Conference Hall for the 2012 academic year on August 1st at 10am and presided over by President Flora Chia-I Chang. Including the dean of the College of Liberal Arts, eighteen second-level department heads participated in the handover. In her opening remarks President Chang stated, "The handover ceremony is the passing of the flame, with a sense of passing the work on to the next generation, and this a tradition at our school. Thanks to the out-going department heads, the succeeding candidates have considerable public support, and this can be put to good use. Ability is something that is cultivated, and everyone can learn from the learning activities for new department heads, keeping in mind that harmony is most important. Competition in each school is very fierce right now, and in addition to maintaining our excellent traditions, we want to maintain continuity. We hope that everyone will be able to be fast and efficient, innovative, understand benchmark learning, and inspire us to stride for a new milestone in the future."
President Chang Presides Over Cross-Strait, 4-Locale Forum
"Approximately 120 members from university presidents on both sides of the Taiwan Strait, Hong Kong and Macao visited Taiwan July 20th to 26th for the 9th Cross-Strait, Hong Kong and Macao University President Conference. University System of Taiwan President Ovid Tzeng oversaw the event, which was hosted by Taiwan University and Chiao Tung University, with another fifteen people from Tamkang University and Chin Men University helping to organize the forum. On July 21st, the first stage of the Forum for University Presidents from Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and Macao was held in the Clement Chang International Conference Hall on the Lanyang campus with President Flora Chia-I Chang presiding, and with speeches given by Ministry of Education Minister Chiang Wei-ling, former Taiwan University President Chen Wei-Chao, former Beijing University President Zhou Qifeng, Ovid Tzeng and other dignitaries. In the afternoon an exchange of ideas touched on “The State Higher Education Development in Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and Macao" and “The Chinese Joint Online Teaching Platform and the Promotion of Integrated Cooperation between Taiwan, China, Hong Kong and Macao."Tamkang University arranged for a delegation to visit Kinmen on the 25th. In a visit on August 4th, a cooperation agreement was signed between Kinmen University, Kinmen Kaoliang Co. and the Guningtou War Museum. A commemorative bottle of Kaoliang was presented at the conference to ensure fond memories of the event.

441 3rd-Year University Exchange Students
The International and Cross-Strait Affairs Office held a flag presentation ceremony on June 26th for students who are going abroad and for the International Youth Ambassadors Delegation, inviting Hu Chenghao, Deputy Director of the West Asia and Africa Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lu Yunbin, Section Chief in the International and Cross-Strait Education Division’s Exchange Reception Section at the Ministry of Education, Jason Reeve, Director of the Canadian Trade Office in Taipei, and Mario Conzález Aloso, Commissioner of Education at the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Taipei to speak at the event. Teng Yu-Fei, commissioner at the Commercial Office of Peru in Taipei, and Yeh Tekuei, Secretary of the Minister at the Latin American and Caribbean Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, were also present at the event, with a total of 441 students who are realizing their dreams of studying abroad. President Flora Chia-I Chang, Vice President of International Affairs Tai Wan-chin, Dean of the College of Foreign Languages Wu Hsi-the, College of Business Administration Dean Chiu Jian-lang, Lanyang Campus College of Global Entrepreneurial Development Dean Liu Ai-hua and Dean of International and Cross-Strait Affairs Dr. Pei Wha Chi Lee were also in attendance.
