2014 International Conference on Global Education for Digital Natives

【Reported by Yan-ling Chen, Tamkang Times】The Graduate Institute of Curriculum and Instruction held the “2014 International Conference on Global Education for Digital Natives: Prospects and Reflections” on the 23rd and 24th. They invited 4 nationally renowned educators to speak on the topic and also share their personal experiences of using the cloud system for digital education. The forum focused on three different topics” The Route to Professional Teacher Development,” “The Global Network Platform,” and “Expanding Taiwanese Students’ International Perception.” The conference had over 200 participants and presented 48 different articles.

Shu-chuen Yang is Honored with French Education Legion of Knights Award

【Reported by Jia-wen Lin, Tamkang Times 】Dean of the Department of French, Shu-chuen Yang, was honored with the “French Education Legion of Knights Award” on January 8th of this year. He was the second person at the Tamkang University to receive this award following Assistant Professor of the Department of French, Pei-wha Chilee. Head of the Ministry of French Affairs in Taiwan, M. Christophe Gigaudaut, presented this prestigious award to Shu-chuen Yang on May 27th. Also in attendance was President Flora Chia-I Chang and Vice President of Foreign Affairs, Wan-chin Tai.

Hsi-li Pai Leads Forum Discussing the Relationship of China, Taiwan and the Philippines

【Reported by Xuan-ping Liu, Yu-xuan Guo, Tamkang Times】On May 27th Representative of the Office of the Philippines in Taiwan, Hsi-li Pai, was invited to discuss the topic of “The 40 Year Economic Balance Between China, Taiwan and the Philippines.” The conference emphasized that Taiwanese and Philippine relations must maintain harmonious for the future economic success of both countries. Hsi-li Pai exclaimed, “Taiwan is faced with three specific issues: fishing restrictions, illegal internet activity and illegal labor.” He then illustrated his point by discussing a case involving a fraudulent international group that fooled people of China to buy land in the Philippines. Through the cooperation of Taiwanese and Filipino authorities, they were able to arrest 44 suspects. He also gave a clearer perspective involving the fishing issues and other politically controversial events.

TKU Holds Forum to Discuss Taiwan and Vietnam Relations

【Reported by Bo-xian Lu, Tamkang Times】On May 27th the College of International Research held a forum to discuss, “The Developing Relationship Between Taiwan and Vietnam.” Dean of the College of International Research, Wan-chin Tai, invited Dean of the Graduate Institute of Asian Studies, Yao-ting Jen, and Dean of the Graduate Institute of International Affairs and Strategic Studies, Ming-hsien Wong. Wan-chin Tai expressed, “This forum is focused on the recent violent events that have been taking place between Taiwanese and Vietnamese businesses and methods that can be used to resolve these problems.”
