PRESIDENT ENCOURAGES STAFFS TO BE MORE PRODUCTIVE IN NEW YEAR JOINT GREETING CEREMONY

The Lunar New Year Joint Greeting Ceremony took place on February 15. More than one hundred TKU faculty members attended the meeting and enjoyed the oranges, apples, and “Won-won Shen-pei”, which are tokens of good luck. President Flora C. I. Chang wished everybody a good luck for the year of Rooster, and reminded the staffs the symbolic implication of chanticleer’s chanting and the hen’s laying eggs—“diligence with self-confidence and productivity.”

President Chang emphasizes that the year 2005 is an important year for the development of TKU under the pressing competition among universities in Taiwan. Concerning the administrative and educational works, she asks the chiefs of every sections to implement every school policy thoroughly. She remarks “In an educational unit, the academic affairs can still be proceeded through the communicational system of colleague. However, the realization of school policies should be undergone through semi-bureaucratic mode.” She is thinking about what units are to be combined or deactivated in order to make the school more competitive.

A guess professor of Department of History, Dr. Ken-sheng Liu, from Renmin University of China, attended the cheerful ceremony. He modestly indicated that “there are many things he need to learn from TKU.” Dr. Chaur-shin Yung, former Minister of Education and chair professor in Graduate Institute of Educational Policy and Leadership, wishes for the attendants “increasing wisdom but not age.” He indicates that his homework during the winter vacation is to review the self-evaluation of the College of Education, and he finds that there are various good potentials for TKU to reveal herself. “This year is a turning point for TKU, and a good chance for others to appreciate her benefits” he comments.
