3000 People Attend TKU’s 2014 Graduation Ceremony

【Reported by Yu-xuan Li, Tamkang Times】Tamkang University’s graduation ceremony took place on Saturday in the Shao-mo Memorial Gymnasium and 3000 people came to express their congratulations to the graduating students. Also in attendance was President Flora Chia-I Chang, the 3 vice presidents and deans of each department. Also invited was Ambassador of the Republic of Kiribati, Teekoa Luta, and President of the Board of the Alumni Association, Zhao-shen Chen, to give inspirational speeches. This year’s graduation ceremony was a bit unconventional containing music videos and films by the Student Association that magically captured four years of study at Tamkang University. It also served as an encouragement for students to be critical thinkers as they bring new innovations and ideas into the career world.

The 71st University Affairs Meeting Takes Place

【Reported by Xue-yi Wu, Yu-rou Huang, Tamkang Times】The 71st University Affairs meeting took place on June 11th in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall with Lanyang Campus and Taipei Campus in attendance via video stream. President Flora Chia-I Chang announced the 2nd annual name list for development grants in various department: Department of Chemistry, Department of Electrical Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering, Department of Statistics and the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering.

TKU Forms Alliance with Four High Schools

【Reported by Qi Zhuo】On June 18th Tamkang University and four high schools from New Taipei City formed an academic alliance. The schools include Jin He High School, Yong Ping High School, Zhu Wei Gao Ji High School and Yong Quan Gao Ji High School. Tamkang University signed this agreement in order to create more opportunities for the future. The agreement was signed by President Flora Chia-I Chang who also hosted the event.

TKU has 6 Winners in the 2014 World Cup Computer Application Competition

【Reported by Jia-yun Cai, Tamkang Times 】The final match of the 2014 World Cup Computer Application Competition took place on June 7th. Six students from Tamkang University’s Department of Statistics and Department of Math placed in the Word and Excel category of the competition. Among the winners was third-year student of the Department of Statistics, Yi-ping Liu, fourth year student of the Department of Statistics, Hui-xuan Xu, who took the championship of the Excel and Word Division. The other students that placed in the competition were second-year students of the Department of Statistics, Jie-yu Chen, Xin-hui Huang, Yi-jun Lin and second-year student of the Department of Math, Jie-ling Zhan.

【Reported by Yi-ru Chen, Tamkang Times 】Dean of the Office of Physical Education, Shu-feng Hsiao, offered her gratitude to the graduating members of the Tamkang University sports team on June 11th during the, “Souvenirs and Contributions Tea Party.” During the event the coaches and guidance counselors showed their deep appreciation and offered their congratulations and best wishes to the new TKU alumni.

【Reported by Yi-ru Chen, Tamkang Times】At the National Physical Education Games of 2014, Tamkang University won a total of16 gold medals, 10 silver medals and 9 bronze medals. In the category of National Junior College Sports Teams, TKU was honored with 10 gold medals, 4 silver medals and 5 bronze medals and was ranked 9th in Outstanding Performance of the Nation. Because of this outstanding performance, President Flora Chia-I Chang held an event to honor the athletes for their effort.

On June 12th the Office of Student Affairs invited President Flora Chia-I Chang to present three student groups with the 2014 National Junior College Student Group Awards. The event was hosted by Dean of the Office of Student Affairs, Chih-en Koh and three awards were presented to the Hua Dong Alumni, Student Association, and the Group of Health Assistance. President Chang gave her sincere supportive words and congratulations for the contributions of each of the TKU groups. She stated, “There are many more important activities happening at the university aside from classes. Please be sure to be active in student organizations to develop even more meaningful experiences.”
