Tamkang Times Celebrates 1000th Edition

【Wan-xuan Qin, Tamsui Campus Report】A tea party was held in celebration of Tamkang Times’ 1000th edition! In attendance was President Flora Chia-I Chang, Vice President of Administration, Yi-jen Hu, Vice President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai, former university president and publisher of Tamkang Times, Horng-jinh Chang, former Director of Tamkang Times, Hui-nan Huang, Director of ET Today, Or Tsai, committee member of legislation, Chi-hen Ko and Chairman of ezTravel, Fu-yen Chen and 120 honored guests.

Sophomore, Junior and Research Student Representative Forum

【Yi-xuan Lin, Tamsui Campus Report】The Office of Student Affairs’ Guidance Section held the “Sophomore Junior and Research Student Representative Forum” in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall on Apr. 28. The event was lead by Vice President of Academic Affairs, Huan-chao Keh, Vice President of Administration, Yi-jen Hu, Vice President of International Affairs, Wan-chin Tai and other related professors, totalling to 150 participants. Lanyang Campus attended via video conference.

Accounting Week on Hai Bao Street

【Huan Du, Yao-yuan Wu, Yun-jun Luo, Tamsui Campus Report】From Apr. 25-29th it was Accounting Week and 6 departments of the College of Foreign Languages and Literature gathered at Hai Bao street for an academic exhibit. The exhibit was called the “Grandpa Josh Effect” and consisted of information pertaining to courses, careers and licenses. Representatives also attended from Fubon, Nanshan and Concord Futures Corp. to give professional lectures and information on upcoming financial events.

Delegation of 8 Travels to Japan to Strengthen Ties

【Li-yuan Wang, Tamsui Campus Report】In order to further the promotion of an internationally-oriented academic institution, Dean of the College of International Studies, Kao-cheng Wang, lead a delegation of 7 members of the college to visit sister schools in Japan from Apr. 17-20. Kao-cheng Wang expressed, “The purpose of this trip was not only to strengthen relations with our partner universities in Japan through an exchange between scholars, but to also deepen the political relationship of Taiwan and Japan. The harvest of this exchange of ideas and concepts of policy can be shared with diplomats for their consideration.”

The Science of Oil

【Li-quan Zhang, Tamsui Campus Report】Professor of the Department of Chemistry, Yau-hung Chen, ran an experiment conducted by the Center for Science Education at Zhong Zheng Junior High School with an estimated 1,500 participants. With the assistance of alumni of the department, Hsien-chang Kao, they lead a group of 14 students to participate in the event that included 15 different schools, running experiments on the negative and positive properties of oil and grease in regards of its acidic level.

2016 European Union Forum

【Tamkang Times】On Apr. 22 the Center for European Union Studies held the “2016 TKU European Union Forum- European Union Trade Policy Trends” on Taipei Campus. The forum consisted of nearly 100 members discussing the future policies of trade in the European Union, continuing costs and immovable properties. The forum was hosted by Director of the Center of European Union Studies, Li-chuan Chen. Director of the College of International Studies, Kao-cheng Wang as well as Director of the European Economic and Trade Office, Madeleine Majorenko, also attended to show their support while sharing information of future trends.

Ryunosuke Akutagawa Forum at TKU

【Tamkang Times】On May 6 and 7 the Department of Japanese and the Ryunosuke Akutagawa Student Club will hold the Annual 2016 International Ryunosuke Akutagawa Forum in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall. Nearly a hundred participants are expected from Taiwan, China, Japan and Korea as they plan to discuss works and research of Ryunosuke Akutagawa.

TKU’s Great Artistic Book Display

【Chang-yu Chen, Tamsui Campus Report】The Chueh-sheng Memorial Library in cooperation with the College of Foreign Languages and LIterature configured the second floor into a book display themed “When Shakespeare Met Cervantes” for World Book and Copyright Day (Apr. 23). Not only does the display showcase literature of the two artists, it also consists of studies related to places that the artists had traveled to including Italy, Denmark, Rome, Balkans and other related themes of literature, culture, travel and history. Dean of the College of Foreign Languages and Literature, Hsiao-chuan Chen, expressed, “It’s already been 400 years since these artistic geniuses have passed. The Department of English and the Department of Spanish collaborated to let young learners see these important historical works with fresh eyes to broaden their horizons.”
