Andy Chen Donates 140 Fuji Cherry Trees, Hoping Tamkang’s Campus Blossoms in Full Glory
On the morning of January 6 at 11:00 a.m., the Office of General Affairs held a Cherry Blossom Donation Ceremony in front of the Gallery of Tamkang History. Andy Chen, a Golden Eagle alumnus of the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering and Chairman of Hanco International Co., Ltd., donated 140 Fuji cherry trees to Tamkang University. The trees will be planted around the Gallery, the Maritime Museum, and the College of Foreign Languages building. President Huan-Chao Keh, Chairperson Flora Chia-I Chang, the three Vice Presidents, Hui-Huang Hsu, Chun-Hung Lin, and Hsiao-Chuan Chen, along with Tamkang University Departmental Alumni Association Headquarters President Samuel Su, founding president Jui-Lung Sun, alumni of the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, and first- and second-level administrators and staff were present at the ceremony.

Yomiuri Shimbun Spotlights Tamkang University’s AI-Driven Governance Achievements, with Smart e-Pen Winning Praise in Japan
Seiichiro Takeuchi, Yomiuri Shimbun correspondent in Taiwan, and Hui-Wen Chen, reporter at the Yomiuri Shimbun Taipei Bureau, visited Tamkang University on January 9 to interview its AI-led governance initiatives. They were received by Prof. Ben-Hang Chang, Director of the Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center, and Tzung-Hang Lee, Dean of the Colleges of Engineering, Artificial Innovative Intelligence, and Precision Healthcare. After attending briefings and personally experiencing the Smart e-Pen, Takeuchi remarked that Japan has a saying, “人間六十、手習い”, meaning it is never too late to learn, and noted that Tamkang University’s promotion of AI in education is highly worthy of learning from in Japan.

The Extracurricular Activities Guidance Section held the “2025 Academic Year Winter Service Team Flag-Presentation Ceremony” at 10:00 a.m. on January 13 at the Student Activity Center. President Huan-Chao Keh, Administrative Vice President Chun-Hung Lin, Academic Vice President Hui-Huang Hsu, along with several first- and second-level supervisors, attended the event. This year, a total of 13 service teams, including the String Orchestra Club, Psychology Research Society, and Tamkang Rotaract Club, comprising nearly 220 student volunteers, will carry out service activities across Taiwan and overseas from January 19 to February 5, putting social care into action.

The Office of International and Cross-Strait Affairs hosted the 2026 Lunar New Year Gala for International Students, themed “Galloping into the New Year” (「躍馬奔騰迎新春」) at 6:30 p.m. on January 9 in the banquet hall on the first floor of the Golden Tulip FAB Hotel Taipei. President Huan-Chao Keh, along with three vice presidents, Hui-Huang Hsu, Chun-Hung Lin, and Hsiao-Chuan Chen, senior administrators, Tsai Meng-Chieh, Section Chief of the Department of Hong Kong, Macao, Mongolia and Tibet Affairs of the Mainland Affairs Council, and Li-Jen Hsu, Section Chief of the Cultural and Educational Affairs Department of the Straits Exchange Foundation, attended the event, celebrating the Lunar New Year with 250 faculty members and students.

The Physical Society of Taiwan held the 2026 Taiwan Physics Annual Meeting from January 13 to 15 at National Chung Cheng University, during which major awards for 2025 were presented. Professor Hung-Chung Hsueh of the Department of Physics was honored with the Outstanding Physics Academic Award in recognition of his exceptional achievements in computational studies of strongly correlated quantum materials. Through innovative theoretical frameworks closely integrated with local experimental teams, he demonstrated outstanding scholarly contributions, becoming the first professor from a private university to receive this prestigious award. Meanwhile, Integrated Service Technology Inc. (iST), founded by Golden Eagle alumnus of the Department of Physics Wei-Bin Yu, was awarded the Industry Contribution Award for its commitment to cultivating talent across academia, industry, and research, providing platforms for industry–academia collaboration and practical training, and exemplifying strong corporate social responsibility that supports the sustainable development of Taiwan’s physics community.
