In an On-line Competition for Conducting Business in Electronics among University Students, 5 sophomores from Department of Management Science of TKU have cut a figure by winning the 3rd place plus a cash prize for NT$100,000.

Tamkang U’s Ilan Campus Construction Project Has Partially Resumed Its Work

The project of Tamkang U’s Ilan campus has started again since Feb. 20, which had been suspended since last October due to the impact of two disastrous typhoons, typhoon Nari and typhoon Xiangsen. According to Mr. Chiang Yi-shan, Chief, Construction and Repair Section, the work is restricted to the area where it needs no alterations in terms of the original plan. But for areas that call for drastic change of plan because of the contour of land change, it becomes a time-consuming chore because it would take the Ilan Hsien government 3 months to process the paper work. So, in other words, “What we are able to do for the time being, is to drain out some of the excess water. As for the major part of the construction work, we need to wait until permits relating to water and soil conservation, environmental protection, and other miscellanies are all cleared by Ilan Hsien authorities. Then we can say we will be in full swing pursuing our objectives.” This is how Mr. Chiang sees what’s lying ahead of him.

Two Research Projects Submitted by TKU Will

An “Energy Development Special Project” sponsored by National Science Council, ROC, to provide supplementary financial aid to private universities had expired on Jan. 15. TKU, as other private universities, is entitled to submitting two 2-year proposals.

Four Distance Teaching Proposals by Waseda University, Japan,

A 4-member delegation led by Dr. Shigeru Shimane, Associate Administrative Director of Academic Affairs Division, Waseda University, Japan, had indicated their willingness to loan their satellite tele-communications system to TKU during their visit here (Feb. 25), 4:00 P.M.

Faculty and Students from Heisei University Visited

A delegation team consisting of faculty and students of Heisei University, Japan, visited scenic spots of TKU on March 1 (Friday). They also viewed VCR featuring the brief introduction of TKU. When they stepped into the Exhibition Hall of Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center, they could not help shouting out with surprise: “Look, there are so many Chinese paintings.”

Tamkang University Held a Friendship Baseball Tournament with Heisei University:

A Total of 146 TKU Faculties Have Been Awarded Cash Prize

A list showing the faculty who have been awarded cash prize for doing excellent research work was announced by Academic Research & Screening Committee, TKU. Tamkang e-Times learned that under the First Research Category, out of a total of 140 applicants, including Pres. Chang Horng-jinh, 118 people were chosen. As for the Second Research Category, out of a total of 63 applicants, 28 faculties including Dr. Chen Kan-nan, Dean, College of Sciences, won such an honor.
