THE TKU 18TH GOLDEN VOICE SINGING CONTEST WILL BE HELD ON SATURDAY

Held by Guitar Club, the TKU 18th Golden Voice Singing Contest will be held on May 1(Saturday) in the Student Activity Center. The Guitar Club has invited five honorable judges to judge in this contest. They are the famous singer Lin Chiang; Kuo Tsung-shao, who used to be the judge for the Golden Melody Award; professional guitar performer, Lin Cheng-ju; melody and lyric producer, Wang Yi-lung and music producer, Wu Ching-tsun. The campus radio station “The Voice of Tamkang” (FM88.7) will broadcast this contest live on Saturday.

EXCHANGE AND FOREIGN STUDENTS OF TKU VISITED CENTRAL TAIWAN AND EXPERIENCED TAIWAN LOCAL CULTURE

On April 17, Dr. Feng Chao-kang, the Vice President for Academic Affairs, led exchange students and foreign students to visit central Taiwan, bringing them a great scenic and cultural travel. 42 persons including teachers and students participated in this two-day-and-one-night activity. They visited Lukang Tienhou Temple, Chi-Chi Train Station Museum and Wuchang Relics of Sept. 21 Earthquake. All of them were impressed a lot by these Taiwan local cultures.

Graduation Exhibition of the Graduates-to-be of Mass Communication Presents Criticism on Media

Have you picked up strawberries on campus recently? The graduation exhibition, called “Let’s Criticize Media” and organized by the 18th anniversary graduates-to-be of Department of Mass Communication, has started its advertising activities, which fill the whole campus with posters and postcards of strawberries and create an illusion of being at strawberry orchard.

YING-SHU YANG STANDS OUT THE AZALEA PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST

After a meticulous examination by contest judges including Yao-chin Lu, Lecturer in the Division of General Education and Core Curriculum, Min-ming Chen, Lecturer in Mass Communication, and Wen-hsing Feng, Specialist in the Division of Educational Technology, the work “Fragment Corner” by Ying-shu Yang, a senior in Chinese Department, stands out among 100 pieces for the “President Cup” azalea photography contest. Also, a second and a third place, plus three “excellent work” prizes are awarded. President Dr. Horng-jinh Chang is expected to attend the awards ceremony held in the President’s Office to honor these winners at 11:00 a.m. tomorrow morning (April 27).

NATIONAL TSING HUA UNIVERSITY PRESIDENT GIVES SPEECH AT TAMKANG

The Department of Physics of TKU invited National Tsing Hwa University President Dr. Frank Hsia-San Shu, who is also an elected member of Academia Sinica, Taiwan, to give a speech on “Big Bang” at Chueh-sheng International Conference Room, introducing the birth of the universe.

COLLEGE OF EDUCATION HOSTS CONFERENCES ON FUTURE HIGHER EDUCATION DEVELOPMENT

College of Education will host two conferences at Cheuh-sheng International Conference Room: Result Presentation of the “Promoting University’s International Competence Project,” hosted by MOE and coordinated by Tamkang University on April 28, 29 (Wed and Thus), and “The 21st Century’s Challenge for Higher Education Conference” on April 30 (Fri). Scholars and educational specialists, domestic and international, will attend the conferences, seeking direction for the development of future higher education.

TARGETING ON FUNDRAISING OF NT$55,000,000 FOR ACADEMIC YEAR 2005

The 16th general meeting of the Fundraising Committee was held at 1:30 pm on April 21, in the Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall on Tamsui Campus. The Committee decided on the fundraising target for academic year 2005, NT$55,000,000, to celebrate the 55th Founding Anniversary of Tamkang University. President Chang Horng-jinh, also Chairman of Fundraising Committee, encouraged everyone to do the utmost to achieve the target with this motto, “A life with dreams and expectations is the sweetest.”

PREPARATION IS IN PROGRESS FOR SELECTION OF NEW TKU PRESIDENT

As President Chang Horng-jinh’s six-year term of office is near its end, all the administrative and academic units of Tamkang University and the Federation of Alumni Associations of TKU were requested last Monday to select representatives to the eighth President Selection Committee. Director of Personnel Office, Lo Yunn-chyr, says that a preliminary list of representatives will be given in early May to the board of trustees, who will decide on the final list of members of the president selection committee.
