STUDENTS AND STAFFS WILL MOVE INTO DORM AT LANYANG CAMPUS NEXT MONTH: FULLY FACILITATED

CLASS LEADER FORUM: PRAISES THE GARDEN-LIKE CAMPUS, LIB. AND NETWORK SERVICES,

The “Class Leader Forum”, hosted by President C. I. Chang, was held last Tuesday (December 13), during which 14 students were awarded with 2005 TKU Outstanding Youth Medals and scholarships (detailed story covered in Issue 628). President Chang reported that according to a survey, TKU students are very happy with the quality and quantity of the library resources and its services, computer facilities and network speed, teaching quality, and garden-like campus. As the usage rate of the library has been raised, President Chang urged students to keep promoting studying interest.

CIGARETTE BUTTS THROWN EVERYWHERE

In club leaders’ meeting, the serious problem of smoking on campus aroused serious concern. Again, the same issue was hotly discussed in class representatives’ meeting last week. Some protested that some teachers smoked during the class; the thick smell of smoking at several buildings was disgusting; what’s more, the Building of Business Management was almost covered with cigarette butts in the evening, a terribly dirty scene.

SONG-TZU-MEI SWIMMING CONTEST TAMKANG’S BRILLIANT PERFORMANCE

On December 11, Tamkang’s swimming team performed brilliantly at the 8th Song-Tzu-Mei Swimming Contest, hosted by Chiaotung University; in addition to the second place of the male group, several outstanding performance were presented: male 200m relay of mixed styles, 2'00"12, a new congress record; Hsieh Hsin-yin’s double golden medal of male 50m and 100m breast stroke.

ROBOTS WIN PRIZES DEPT. OF MECHANICAL AND ELECTRO- MECHANICAL ENGINEERING DESERVES THE FAME

Chen Tzi-yuan (a sophomore of Graduate Institute of Mechanical and Electro- Mechanical Engineering), Chen Jing-hung and Chen Jun-rong (freshmens of Graduate Institute of Mechanical and Electro- Mechanical Engineering), Hsieh Rey-ren and Chen I-chang (seniors of Dept. of Mechanical and Electro- Mechanical Engineering) participated in “The Project for Cultivating and Integrating Specialists in Refined Mechanics and Electronics: Contest of Students’ Products on Special Topics” organized by Ministry of Education and held at Chungcheng University at December 8 and 9, winning “prize for educational application” in the category of special honor with the work “moving-all-around soccer robots.”

CHU-KUANG SERVICE CLUB WINS THE SOCIAL SERVICE PRIZE

Chu-Kuang Service Club obtained the 13th “College Youth Social Service Prize” from the Culture Foundation of the United Daily News Group; it also obtained the award of “Outstanding Mass Organization” because of warm-hearted assistance to disable people. The leader of Chu-Kuang Service Club, Wu Chun-hwa, 3rd year in Dept. of Statistics, is the representative to receive the reward and sixty thousand dollars bonus from Wang Bee-chen, the board chairman of the United Daily News Group.

REVELRY NIGHT IN REITAKU:

THE 2005 CHRISTMAS PARTY “RAINBOW NIGHT” WILL BE HELD AT STUDENT ACTIVITY CENTER ON CHRISTMAS EVE

Christmas is coming with the cold currents! The 2005 Christmas party “Rainbow Night,” hosted by Dept. of Electrical Engineering, is to be held at Student Activity Center in the evening on Dec. 24. In the party, there will be rock songs, hot dance, and show girls, which will give audience a wonderful visual and audial enjoyment. Welcome all students to come and have fun!

DEPT. OF CHEMISTRY PROMOTES THE PROJECT OF CULTIVATING GRADUATE STUDENTS BY ALUMNI’S ENTERPRISES

Dept. of Chemistry has already provided 20,000 N.T. and 50,000 N.T. scholarships to Master Program students and Ph.D. Program students respectively by using “Funds for Developing Dept. of Chemistry”, donated by the alumni. Using the same alumni resources, now it begins to promote a system of cultivating talented graduate students. At present, 21 graduate students join the project, who will be interviewed and screened by the alumni’s enterprises.

DEPT. OF SPANISH CELEBRATES DON QUIXOTE’S 400TH BIRTHDAY

In order to celebrate Don Quixote’s 400th birthday, Dept. of Spanish will hold a series of events at Chueh Hsuan Guest House from Dec. 19 to 23, 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. They sincerely welcome all teachers and students of TKU to come and visit.
