CELEBRATING THE 58TH TKU ANNIVERSARY: WORLD TKU ALUMNI REUNION AT SHANGHAI
To celebrate the 58th TKU anniversary, a series of activities will be held since November 1 and last for one month. The celebration party will be held on 9 A.M., November 8, at Student Activity Center, in which the Golden Eagle Awards, Acknowledgements for donation will be given. In addition to the welcoming tea party for all alumni, a banquet in honor of the Golden Eagle Award winners, representatives of world alumni associations, alumni in the cultural fields, donors with more than 300,000 NT dollar donations will be held at Ya Dear Restaurant. In addition, there will be orchid exhibition and variety competitions on the anniversary day. TKU Founder Clement Chang will host the opening ceremony for the Plum Garden in Lanyang Campus on the same day.
NI DONATES 30 PCS TO TKU
National Instruments (NI) will donate 30 PCs to TKU for the use of education. The press conference of “NI’s donation to and cooperation with Tamkang University” was held on 1:40 P.M., October 27, at Room E680, Engineering Building. Mr. Sun Chi-kang, Manager of NI, Dr. Chen Kan-nan, Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. Yu Gwo-hsing, Dean of College of Engineering, Dr. Wong Ching-chang, Chair of Dept. of Electrical Engineering participated in the meeting. Vice President Chen Kan-nan represented TKU to receive the donation.
CONFERENCE ON HIGHER EDUCATION: FOCUS ON CULTIVATION OF TALENTS
The academic conference “Development and Transition of Higher Education,” co-held by Graduate Institute of Educational Policy and Leadership, TKU, and Taiwan Higher Education Society, took place on Oct. 23 and 24, in which Dr. Huang Jong-tsun, President of China Medical University, and Dr. Zhou Yuan-qing, Director of Chinese Association of Higher Education, delivered keynote speeches. In the conference, scholars from both sides of the strait enthusiastically discussed seven topics, including the cultivation of talents, the quality assurance and evaluation of higher education, which drew great response.
THE SURVEY GROUP ON EDUCATION FROM GUANGDONG VISITED TKU: IMPRESSED BY THE LIBRARY COLLECTIONS AND FACILITIES
A 33-people survey group, led by Tan Ze-zhong, Vice-Secretary of Party committee, Dept. of Education of Guangdong Province, visited TKU in the morning on Oct. 22, and was received by Dr. Tai Wan-chin, Vice President for International Affairs. Both sides discussed the issues of current school situation, teachers’ evaluation, and junior abroad program before exchanging souvenirs at Room 317, Shao-mo Memorial Gymnasium. After that, the members of the survey group had a campus tour. They highly praised for Chueh-sheng Memorial Library, especially the newly built reading area on the 1st floor and the Non-book Material Room on the 5th floor, because of its perfect facilities and abundant collections.
WEBSITE OF CAREER PLACEMENT FOR TKU STUDENTS WILL BE OPERATED IN DECEMBER
DR. HOLMES, FATHER OF ENVIRONMENTAL ETHICS, GIVING SPEECHES IN DEPT. OF ENGLISH
Dept. of English held the Environmental Ethics and Ecological Discourse Forum on Oct. 23 and 24, inviting Dr. Holmes Rolston III, Distinguished Professor at Colorado State University, to deliver speeches to graduate students. Dr. Rolston is widely recognized as the father of environmental ethics as a modern academic discipline. In the speech, he not only talked about the global environmental crisis resulted from capitalism, consumerism, and population explosion, but also shared his ideas and process of studying environmental ethics. “Environmental ethics is the main research field that our graduate program focuses on, so I am pleased that Dr. Rolston can come to share his experience with us,” said Huang I-min, Chair of Dept. of English.
