GRADUATE STUDENTS AND TWO ALUMNI OF INSTITUTE OF THE AMERICAS PASS THE EXAM FOR DIPLOMATIC OFFICIALS

THREE GROUPS FROM BELGIUM, CHINA AND MACAU VISITED TKU

Three delegations from Belgium, China and Macau, visited Tamkang University on January 11, 12 and 22, respectively. The first arrivals were Mr. Pierre de Maret, Pro Recteur of the Universite Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium, who led a four-person delegation to visit TKU. Mr. Pierre de Maret said that he was deeply impressed with TKU’s capability in joining hands of foreign language expertise with exotic cultures, to provide a comprehensive foreign language teaching and learning environment for students. He expressed his wish to build closer bilateral tie between his school and the TKU via cooperation such as exchange students program.

17 SERVICE TEAMS DID VOLUNTEER SERVICE AROUNG THE COUNTRY DURING WINTER VACATION

17 service teams had taken the opportunity of winter vacation to do services around the country. They are Changhua High-school Alumni Association, Taichung Region High-school Alumni Association, Erh Ch’I High-school Alumni Association, Pingtung High-school Alumni Association, Hualien High-school Alumni Association, Innovative Information and Technology Department Association, Assocaition of Campus Ambassador, Human Animal Care Club, and the winner of the Award of Excellence of 2009 Evaluation of College Student Clubs, Tamkang Recreational Activity Counseling Club. The flag-passing ceremony, hosted by Dr. Kao Po-yuan, Vice President for Administrative Affairs, took place at B712, Business Management Building, on Jan. 18.

TEACHER AND STUDENTS OF DEPT. OF ELECTRICAL ENGINEERING WON PATENTS FOR THEIR RESEARCHES

Dr. Wong Ching-chang, Chair of Dept. of Electrical Engineering, has led part-time faculty Dr. Lee Shih-an and Ph.D. student Liu Chih-cheng in two research projects, “Omnidirectional Mobile Control System” and “Accelerator for Particle Swarm Optimization,” which have won the patent respectively.

DEPT. OF STATISTICS SIGNED ACADEMIC EXCHANGE AGREEMENT WITH YUNNAN UNIVERSITY

Dept. of Statistics, TKU, signed the academic exchange agreement with Dept. of Statistics of Yunnan University last month. Dr. Tang Nien-sheng, Vice Dean, College of Mathematics and Statistics, especially came to TKU to sign the agreement. It is hoped that both sides can have further practical communication through this agreement. In the future, they are planning to exchange academic journals, increase students’ and teachers’ interaction between the two departments, and do research project to raise the research quality, creating a win-win deal.

WINTER CAMPS IN TKU

The TKU Student Association held a winter training camp for the union’s cadre members on January 18 and 19 at TKU Langyang Campus. The beauty of the campus in Yilan County impressed all the participants of the camp. During the two day training program, the Student Association has invited experts in holding group activities from the Kung-Fu Paradise Education Team to give lectures. These lecturers informed all the future leaders in group events on how to make use of creative thinking to hold activities of all kinds to exercise the teamwork spirit.
