STUDENTS AND STAFFS WILL MOVE INTO DORM AT LANYANG CAMPUS NEXT MONTH: FULLY FACILITATED

The 9-floor high and 1000-vacancies dormitory of Lanyang Campus has been officially approved to be used since December 9, right after the certification of the teaching facilities on October 14. According to Dr. Lin Jyh-horng, Director of Lanyang Campus, TKU students and staffs will be moved into the dormitory after the second semester, on January 11, 2006. The first floor, as the public space of the building, will be installed with convenience store, post office, ATM machine, laundry, glasses shop, coffee bar, and Karaoke machine. Dormitory areas locate from the second floor to the ninth floor, with 448 double bed rooms for 896 students, and 5 family apartments and 20 single rooms for staffs.

Director Lin indicated that Lanyang Campus is a British styled campus, with four semesters a year, and a strong emphasis on English language learning and global learning experience, in which all junior students are arranged to study abroad for a year. All students and staff have to lodge at the campus from Monday through Thursday. There is also tutorial system for study and living counseling. “All these systems and facilities are designed to make students and staff feel like at home,” Director Lin remarked.

Although most of the Lanyang students have been informed about this information, some are vary careful about the details of the practice. Chen Yin-ju, freshman of Department of Multiculture and Linguistics Studies, inquired that “though we had visited the campus during the school anniversary in November, we are not sure about where to eat and how to transport.” Chiang Yu-san, Section Chief of Construction Repair Section, Office of General Affairs, replied that Tamkang had coordinated with transportation companies in I-lan County to arrange the bus schedule and stop location, and chose Chiaohsi as the transaction stop. The teaching facilities have been fully installed and the dormitory will be well prepared before students and staffs move in.

As for the library and information equipment, the librarian Lin Hui-chong indicates that all the required books, especially the reference books and other information resources for departments of Multiculture and Linguistics Studies, Global Politics and Economics, Software Engineering, and Information and Communications Technology Management, have been moved to the Lanyang Campus. Those students who lodge at Lanyang Campus can borrow on reserve the books from Chuehsheng Library at Tamsui Campus. The web network between Tamsui Campus and Lanyang Campus has been established with the latest equipment. Students are guaranteed to “drive high on the net.” (~ Chi-szu Chen )
