Series of activities celebrating TKU’s 54th anniversary were proposed and passed at the preparatory meeting last Wednesday. In the meeting, Kao Po-yuan, the Vice President for Administrative Affairs, invited all the related offices to share their ideas for the activities to be held on the 8th and 9th of November. It was understood that these activities consist of an Opening Ceremony, a Track & Field Meets which include a relay, Freshman Basketball and Volleyball Championship Games and a Student Association sponsored New May 4th Movement Event that is also known as the Tamkang New Culture Movement Event. Furthermore, there will be a sister university signing ceremony between TKU and Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies of Japan and a ground breaking ceremony for the Foreign Languages Building on the 8th. The groundbreaking ceremony for Lanyang Campus is scheduled on the 9th.

The tentative timetable for the 8th will begin with the Opening Ceremony in the morning, during which the Elite Golden Eagle Awards for outstanding alumni and Awards for best contributors and fundraisers will be presented. Between 8 am and 5 pm, there will be a track & field meets highlighted by a team relay, whereas the Freshman Basketball and Volleyball Championship Games will be held between 12 noon and 1:30 pm. Office of Alumni Services and Resources Development and all departments have invited and welcome all TKU alumni to these events.

For example, a day trip to Lanyang Campus for TKU staff and faculty on 15 and 19 of October respectively has been arranged. A Bowling Open Championship will be held at the Asia Pacific Bowling Alley on October 24. In November the festivity atmosphere will only intensify as more activities have been scheduled to take place. One of them is Lin You-hsiang’s, a respected folk singer in Taiwan and a TKU alumna, concert on Tamsui campus. Others will include an Orchids Show hosted by the Office of General Affairs at the Exhibition Hall of the Business Administration Building from 7th to 9th, a Taiwan Jiaoze Pottery Show at the Carrie Chang Fine Arts Center starting from the 5th and runs until the end of this year and a couple of departmental alumni activities on the 6th.

The activities under the name of The New May 4th Movement—Tamkang’s New Culture Movement, hosted by the Student Association, will kick off at nine o’clock in the morning of November 8th on the University Commons, the Poster Street and in front of the Chueh Sheng Memorial Library.
