The Integrated Development and Planning Section, Lanyang Campus Preparation Office, held a second committee meeting to discuss the curriculum design on Oct. 8. The committee has provisionally proposed these names: Innovative Management, Global Research and Development, and Community Development respectively for the first three colleges on Lanyang campus. The chair of the committee, who is also the Dean of Academic Affairs, Fu Hsi-jen, says that the 17- member committee will meet again in small groups at the end of this month to propose final official names of these three colleges to the Office of Lanyang Campus.
Fu states that those provisional names were the result of a three hours discussion, during which the committee members considered the wishes of TKU’s founder Dr. Clement C. P. Chang when he first envisaged the Lanyang Campus. His vision for the campus, which incorporates an Oxbridge-style undergraduate general education, and the needs of local communities, together with English-only classroom instruction, served as the guideline for Fu and his fellow members in considering these names.
The committee was further divided into four groups after the meeting. They will discuss in more detail the design of core courses, orientation of these colleges and their eventual names.
