No more trekking between the Office of Student Accommodation and the dormitory in order to resolve nitty-gritty issues for male students who reside at Tamkang Garden Dormitory. Last Wednesday, Oct. 15, the university authority assigned Han Huan-chung, a Student Affairs counselor to reside at the dormitory in order to take charge of the hot desk solely designed to resolve any such matters that arise.
The head resident, Jen Chuan-hsiang, a freshman at the Department of Industrial Economics points out that in the past month the facilities maintenance was implemented by the dormitory committee, whereas the management and student guidance was given by the university authority. With this new arrangement, he believes, there will be a direct approach to students’ daily problems. One of the problems the dormitory is currently encountering is the complaints they receive from neighbouring local residents regarding the chaotic parking situation in the alleys nearby. This is due to the limited parking space at the dormitory. Consequently, many students park their motorbikes in the alleys instead.
The problem is known to the Office of Student Accommodation and as there are 950 plus students residing at this male-only dormitory in which only 400 odd parking spaces are provided, a traffic problem is anticipated. TKU has requested the Tamsui Township to paint parking lines so that students will learn to park neatly so as to reduce any inconvenience for the local residents. Before that happens, however, the Office advises students to be cautious, otherwise they are responsible for their own actions, including paying traffic fines.
