SHIH CHU-YUN WON THE FOURTH CATEGORY CHAMPION IN THE NATIONAL CHUNG CHENG CUP JUDO CHAMPIONSHIP

Hosted by the Chinese Taipei Judo Association, the National Chung Cheng Cup Judo Championship was held from December 15th to 18th in Taipei Gymnasium. TKU’s Judo Team had performed extremely well, with Shih Chu-yun, a sophomore in Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering, winning the championship in the women group, category 4.

Other team members also did a great job in this championship. Four TKU students won the third prize in the College Women Team Championship in Group B. They are, Hsu Lin-chia, a senior from the Department of Spanish, Lee Lien-yin a freshman from the Department of Aerospace Engineering , Kuo Yi-chen, a freshman from the Department of Electrical Engineering, and Ching-yin Hou, a student of the College of Technology. Chang Ku-chi, the leader of the TKU Judo Club, declares that this year all the freshmen have great potentials and no stage fright. In their first game of the Women Team Championships, our team defeated the Leader College with the score 4 to 1. Unfortunately, they lost the game with Takming College, therefore permitted their chance to become the champion.

Shih Chu-yun says that she has been learning Judo since she was in the sixth grade of elementary school. She even intended to enter the National College of Physical Education and Sports; however, due to the objection of her family, she gave up that plan. In her first game, Shih met the champion of the Team Group from the Yuan Ze University. She was really nervous before the game. Nevertheless, after she got on the arena, Shin first observed how her opponent moved, and then she took the first move and attacked her rival. Since Shih was taller than her opponents, she was able to gain the upper hand and do the move “Major Outer Wheel” to make her opponent fell and won the game. (~Amanda Yen)
