The Fourth Symposium of Documentation hosted by the Graduate Institute of Chinese Linguistics and Documentation will be held at Chueh-sheng International Conference Hall this Friday and Saturday (28 and 29 Nov. 2003). More than fifty scholars coming from Taiwan, China and other countries will attend this symposium; among them, besides the eight scholars from China, some even come from Hong Kung, Korea, and America. All of them are going to discuss the theory and application of documentation in the symposium.
Wu Che-fu, the Chair of Graduate Institute of Chinese Linguistics and Documentation, indicates that in Ching Dynasty, there were great achievements in examining and explaining the old historical books because of the popular climate of documentation. For instance, Chang Hsiao-cheng’s Wenshi tongyi is the second important work of the theory of history, which could be equaled to the status of Shitong, and has had a profound influence on research in later periods. Therefore, the participants of the symposium will research and discuss the accomplishment of Chang Hsiao-cheng and some related issues.
