According to the Office of Academic Affairs, 263 students (about 1% of the total of students) were expelled from school last semester because they failed more than one-half (or two-third for overseas Chinese students) of the total credit hours for the second time within an academic year, 14 less than the number last year. Among them, five were M.A. students, subverting the impression that graduate students are hard to be dismissed.
In the list of dismissal, 96 were from the College of Engineering, the largest item of the percentage; 63 from the College of Management; 50 from the College of Sciences; 22 from the College of Business and the College of Foreign Languages and Literatures respectively; less than 10 from the other colleges. Some of them were leading persons or cadres of the school clubs, and some are the foreign students from overseas. (Han-yu Huang)
