TAMKANG HOSTS INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON TEACHER EDUCATION

College of Education of Tamkang University will be hosting the 25th annual International Conference on Teacher Education since this Saturday (April 9-16) at Howard International House, Taipei. The conference theme is Globalization of Teacher Education, featuring four sub-themes: Teacher Preparation and Teacher Quality, Professional Standard and Evaluation, Professional and Career Development, Global Knowledge and Local Caring.

International Society for Teacher Education (ISTE) is an international academic organization, holding its annual meetings in difference countries; Taiwan takes the turn this year, and Tamkang will be hosting the conference since this weekend. More than a hundred scholars, including 20 domestic and more than 80 international scholars and professionals from more than 25 countries, are expected to attend the conference, discussing ranged issues concerning teacher education.

Taiwan, by the name Republic of China, has been maintaining a good relationship with ISTE since it was founded in 1981. Professor Gai Che-Sheng, who is also Director of Educational Policy and Leadership, has been serving as a member of Steering Committee for Asia since 1991. The conference program will include keynote speeches, paper presentations, roundtable discussions, and visiting programs (including visits to National Palace Museum and Tamkang University, among other places). The conference organizers hope to give the conference participants a good impression of Taiwan’s society and a better understanding of Taiwan’s culture. (~ Yu-lin Lee )
