UNIVERSITY LIBRARY CELEBRATES WORLD BOOK DAY

This Saturday, April 23, is the World Book and Copyright Day. The Chueh-sheng Memorial Library is celebrating this occasion with a series of events from April 23 to 29, including a Good Book Fair, seminars, colloquiums, and quizzes. The theme of the series of events is “spreading the wings of reading and opening the window of the soul”.

The Good Book Fair will take place between April 23 and 29 in the New Book area on the second floor of the University Library: on display will be a selection of the bestsellers and award-winning books of 2003 and 2004. Faculty, staff and students of Tamkang University, on presentation of their University ID cards, will be able to buy books at a 15% discount in More Bookshop (Pei-shin Road), Green Life Bookshop (Ying-chuan Road), and Tamsui Cultural Plaza (Chung-shan Road). Moreover, quiz sheets are available at the Tamkang Times newsstand in every building on campus. The answers to the quizzes can be returned to the information desk on the second floor of the main library. The names of those who get all the answers right will be entered into a prize draw. The biggest prize is NT$3,000 worth of book tokens. The list of the winners of the prize draw will be posted on the library bulletin board and web page on May 6.

Prof. Kao Po-yuan, Vice-president for Administrative Affairs, will give a speech “Let’s start reading with the Little Prince” at 7 p.m. on April 26 in Room U203 of the main library. On April 28, again at 7 p.m. in Room U203, Dr. Chen Kuo-hua, Chair of the Graduate Institute of Futures Studies, will present a guided reading of Life of Pi. Only 25 places are available and online registration is open from April 23. The first ten persons to register who also actually attend the event will be given a NT$200 book token.
