247 JUNIORS TO STUDY ABROAD FOR THE 2005 ACADEMIC YEAR

In the 2005 academic year, there are totally 247 TKU juniors studying abroad in TKU’s sister schools for one year. Among them, 49 are exchange students. The flag-presentation ceremony for junior abroad students, hosted by Founder Dr. Clement C. P. Chang and President Flora C. I. Chang, was held on August 18, 2005, at Chueh Sheng International Conference Hall.

Representatives from foreign embassies were invited to the ceremony to brief the diverse cultural backgrounds of the target nations. Two students who just returned from the junior abroad program, Chia-yu Liu (Germany) and Li-chun Chiu (English), shared their learning experience with the participants. Hui-shan Ju (junior, Japanese) talked about her plan about and expectation of the abroad studying program. A graduate student from Dept. of Information Science, Pei-chen Chang, who would go to California State University, Sacramento, and a junior from Dept. of International Trade, Hsing-hua Chan, who would go to Winona State University, were respectively awarded with a scholarship of 15000 NT dollars.

Among the six departments of the College of Foreign Languages and Literatures and the department of International Trade, students from Department of Japanese form the biggest group, with 55 members, who will go to study at Reitaku University, Josai University, Josai International University, Kyoto Tachibana Josai Women's University, and two new sister schools—Akita International University and Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies. 43 students from Departments of English, Mass Communication, Management Science and Decision Making, Information Science, and Statistics will attend Indiana University of Pennsylvania, Winona State University, Minnesota, and Brandon University, Canada. 14 Spanish Department students will go to Navarra University, Spain. 17 French Department students will join in the program of the Universite de Franche-comte, France. 12 German Department students will attend courses at Bonn University. 12 Russian Department students will attend St. Petersburg State University in Russia.

49 students are selected as exchange students to 25 sister schools in 12 countries for one year, including the following,

Korea: Kyonggi University,

Sweden: Stockholm University,

Poland: Warsaw University,

Czechoslovakia: Charles University in Prague,

France: Universite of Jean Moulin , Lyon 3,

Belgium: Universite catholique de Louvain, Haute Ecole-Leonard de Vinci,

Germany: University of Cologne, Bonn University,

Austria: The University of Vienna,

Japan: Nagasaki University, Tokai University, The University of Electro-Communications, Asia University, Tsuda College, Waseda University, Komazawa University, Aoyama Gakuin University, Chuo Gakuin University, Nagasaki University of Foreign Studies (Chi-szu Chen)
