45 STUDENTS, INCLUDING FOUR FROM LANYANG CAMPUS, TO BE THE EXCHANGE STUDENTS IN 2007 ACADEMIC YEAR

The outcome of the exchange-student selection for 2007 academic year, held by Office of International Exchanges & International Education (OIEIE), has been announced a few days ago. This summer vacation, 45 students including Liu Hsing-chang (sophomore, Dept. of Software Engineering) will go to TKU’s 24 sister universities, both Japanese and non-Japanese sister universities, to study respectively. The students of Lanyang Campus join the selection for the first time, and 4 students have been chosen.

The number of the exchange students this year is eight persons more than that last year. Lee Ching-i, who takes charge of the screening jobs related to non-Japanese sister universities, indicates that it is the first year to select exchange students to go to Suffolk University, U.S.A; Indiana University of Pennsylvania, U.S.A; Hawaii Pacific University, U.S.A; and Universite De Paris-Sorbonne, France. There are six vacancies for the following schools, including Universite of Jean Moulin, Lyon 3, France; Haute Ecole-Leonard de Vinci, Belgium; Bonn University, Germany; and the University of Vienna, Austria. OIEIE will go through the selection process next semester, and people interested in being exchange students can check out the information on the website of OIEIE (http://www2.tku.edu.tw/~oieie/).

Huang Sheng-hung (second-year graduate student of Dept. of French) will go to Universite of Jean Moulin , Lyon 3, France, for his double Master degrees. Since he has been to the same school as an exchange student when he was a junior, he is quite familiar with the teachers and their study fields, which is also the reason why he likes to study in this university one more time. However, Huang said, “Although it is my second time to be the exchange student of the same school, I still feel a lot of pressure because I need to take many courses in France while writing my thesis at the same time.” Chien Feng-ying (sophomore, Dept. of English) expresses that she is very happy to have the opportunity to study in Brandon University, Canada. “I’m sure that I will have a rewarding journey,” said Chien. She also encourages her juniors to set their goals and prepare themselves as soon as possible, so that they can seize the chance of being exchange students when they are juniors.

Cheng Hsiang-I (sophomore, Dept. of Software Engineering, Lanyang Campus), who will study abroad at Stockholm University, Sweden, indicates that the cost for going abroad as an exchange student is much cheaper than applying for a foreign school by himself. He is eagerly looking forward to going to Sweden to learn her language and culture. In addition, his roommate Entertainment Assistance has also been selected to the same school, and hence in the future they can look after each other when they study in Sweden. (~Shu-chun Yen )
