Arranged by Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Republic of China, Hon. Sandra Alejandrina Cuevas de Hernandez, Head of Gracias a Dios Department, Honduras, will visit TKU with her husband at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday (March 29). They will be received by Dr. Kung Kwo-wei, Chair of Dept. of Spanish, and Dr. Juan Hung Hui of Graduate Institute of Latin American Studies, and will have an informal discussion with teachers and students at T702.
Dr. Kung Kwo-wei indicates that this trip is mainly arranged by Yeh De-guey, Consulate-General of the Republic of China (Taiwan), San Pedro Sula, Honduras, who as an alumnus of Dept. of Spanish, introduced Mrs. Hernandez to visit his alma mater. Prof. Juan Hung Hui explains that last year (2006) was the election year for Latin America. Among the countries in Latin America that have diplomatic relations with Taiwan, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama are more inclined to the left wing. Hence, the visiting of Mrs. Hernandez displays a closer diplomatic relations between Taiwan and Honduras. He expects that through the forum, students can understand more about the politics and economics of Latin America. ( ~Shu-chun Yen )
