FOODS AND GAMES IN FOREIGN LANGUAGES WEEK

The annual Foreign Languages Week gets started cheerfully. In addition to awards-giving and various dancing performances, there is a cultural exhibition on the Poster Street, as well as “Conquer the Earth” game and “Eating King” activities to amuse the students. After a brief speech made by Dr. Sung Mei-hua, Dean of College of Foreign Languages and Literatures, cultural dances and music performances from all six Departments of the College (English, Japanese, French, German, Russian, and Spanish) commence the colorful and multi-lingual week.

From Monday to Friday, various exotic foods such as Germany ginger soda, waffles, British marshmallow, will be prepared from 10 am to 6 pm. Besides, Department of Russian will sell traditional Russian dolls; Department of Japanese rents a machine of “egg-twisting toys” for students to have fun.

The departments will set up different challenging stages for the activity of “Conquer the Earth,” for instance, the 9-square Baseball Tossing from Department of Japanese. People successfully make through all stages can participate in drawing and winning award. People are in top 3 places can get bonus of 3000, 2000, and 1000 dollars. The contest of “Eating King” will be held in front of the Foreign languages building at 12 on Friday. The top 3 winners can get bonus of 2000, 1000, and 500 NT dollars. With only 30 limited competitors, students willing to participate can sign up at the Poster Street during the tabling. Department of Russian will hold a Russian folk song contest at C013 at 6 p.m. on Wednesday. Department of Spanish will hold “A very Spanish June Afternoon” event at the lobby of the Foreign Languages building at 1 p.m., on June 14, with Spanish poems reading, Flamigo dance performance, and Sangria beverage.
