EXCHANGE STUDENT AS JAPANESE TEACHER

The Office of International Exchanges and International Education sponsored a Japanese conversation class for beginners on Oct. 30. The class offers 8 lessons, and it is in L527 on Thursday night from 18:30 to 20:00. It is taught by the exchange student from one of TKU’s Japanese sister universities, Nagasaki University,

Different from the traditional method of learning Japanese by memorization, Shiya Kimura the teacher has daily life conversation with another exchange student Sayumi Oishi from another TKU sister university Tsuda College. Their live conversation first goes on slowly, demonstrating both pronunciation and intonation then changes to normal speed and repeats the content again and again. He has also prepared memory cards as a teaching aid and asked students to repeatedly practice daily life conversation with the cards which help students remember the words.

Economics senior Cheng-xuan Li said, “In class the teacher asks two students as a group to practice conversation on the platform. This gives us a deep impression!” She has happily mentioned that she likes learning Japanese, and after joining the class, she has learned not only authentic pronunciation but also daily life conversations. The result is better.

The class will go on until Dec. 25, and there are still seats available, so teachers and students are welcome to take the rare opportunity to join. For further information please contact with the Office of International Exchanges and International Education at FL501. ( ~Dean X. Wang )
