Sponsored by the Overseas Compatriot Affairs Commission, R.O.C., 2008 Central and South American Overseas Chinese Youth Delegation of 30 visited TKU on Nov. 27. The Office of International Exchanges and International Education received them. Except visiting TKU’s Maritime Museum, they also had a bulletin introduction and discussion by the Office.
The discussion session was conducted by Pei-wha Lee, the director of the Office. In the discussion, the overseas Chinese youth representatives from Paraguay, Argentine and Brazilian showed great interests in language curriculum and possible research co-operations. Professor of Spanish, Francisco Luis Perez expressed that at present in Asia, Taiwan was the only country that regarded South America as the most important diplomatic area; thus, there were good conditions for cooperation. In recent years, the Taiwanese government provided South American countries with a great deal of scholarships which could provide a better environment for future exchanges. ( ~Dean X. Wang )
