BLACK SWAN EXHIBITION HALL LAUNCHED FOR DISPLAYING

TKU’s new exhibition space, Black Swan Exhibition Hall, was initiated by a curtain-lifting ceremony on Feb. 23rd, with the witness of Tamsui Town Mayor Mr. Tsai Yeh-wei, Principle of Teng Kung Elementary School Mr. Lee Yung-chang, and Founder Clement Chang, who pulled off the color balloons and black feathers. President C. I. Chang expects TKU teachers and students to demonstrate their talents and creativity in this new creative space.

In the opening ceremony, President C. I. Chang passed over a feather of black swan to Chen Yi-hua, Deputy Chairman of Student Association, as a token of creative inheritance, and emphasized the importance of students’ creative participation in the exhibition.

Along with the ceremony is a special exhibition, “Black Swan and Flying Elephant,” with various ingenuous and KUSO photos, demonstrating the “Black Swan Effect.” The organizer of this exhibition, Dr. Chao Ya-ly, Dean of College of Liberal Arts, indicates that the idea of the exhibition is derived from the Disney animation, Dumbo. In the animation, a little mouse gave Dumbo the elephant a black feather, which magically makes it to fly. The magical black feather symbolizes the daring creativity of TKU to challenge traditional thinking—to dance and to fly.

Many teachers and students were attracted by this interesting exhibition. One participant of the display, Yu Shang-en, a sophomore of English department, and member of Earth Environmental Protection Group, remarks that the former exhibition hall at Business and Management Building was larger and its location was more convenient, hence allowed more visitors; however, it was noisy. The interior design of The Black Swan Exhibition Hall is like a professional art gallery. Tien Chiao-yu, a freshman of Economy department, expresses that “though the displaying space is not as large as expected, the artistic design makes me feel cozy and delightful.” ( ~Chen Chi-szu )
