TKU WIND ENSEMBLE CLUB WON THE EXCELLENT PRIZE AGAIN IN THE NATIONWIDE STUDENT ART CONTEST

The music competition of Nationwide Student Art Contest, held by Ministry of Education, took place at Taipei Municipal Da-An Vocational High School recently, and standing out of 12 universities, TKU Wind Ensemble Club won the excellent prize for two successive years and the fourth place of northern area. “This prize should be dedicated to all the members for their hard-working practicing. This time, we lack of some players in our band. I believe that if we improve this situation, we will get a better grade next time,” said the advisor of the club Mr. Ting Chao-hsien, an alumnus of Dept. of Public Administration.

In most of the judges’ opinions, TKU Wind Ensemble performed quite well when playing the assigned song Symphoniz Nobilissima. The timbre of the music is beautiful and harmonious. However, the judges pointed out that some places in the song were not very perfect, and suggested that the band should pay more attention to playing uniformly. The special thing was when the band played the selected song Perseus, it added a chorus to the music. Combining the wind ensemble with human singing voice, the work was presented with a different kind of feeling from the pure wind ensemble one.

Nieh Yun-fang, a sophomore of Dept. of Statistics and the leader of TKU Wind Ensemble Club, indicated that it’s almost a tradition for them to join the national music competition each year, and the result this year was better than they expected. Although there was no enough time to practice since they began their training from winter vacation and face some difficulties in the process of practicing, they still had nice performance on the day of the contest, which made every member feel happy. Liang Wei-hsuan, a sophomore of Dept. of Information and Communication, expressed that all of the club members went to Hsilo to receive training for six days, which not only improve their skills, but also unite the hearts of the members.

The selected song was selected by the principals who played different instruments. They also invited a chorus to join them together. Liu En-liang, a junior of Dept. of French said, “We are really grateful that many seniors came back to instruct us. Our selected song is full of great momentum, and the chorus makes our performance more powerful.” ( ~Shu-chun Yen )
