To enhance bilateral exchanges between local and international students as well as to encourage foreign students to practice Chinese, Office of International Exchanges and International Education has set up a “Chat Corner” at Foreign Language Building. Director of the Office, Dr. Lee Pei-wha said that her office has recruited local students to serve as chat leaders in the chat corner, in the aim of helping foreign students to elevate their Chinese language skill.
The Chat Corner project will be divided into two batches, one is from April 27 to May 15, another lasted from May 18 to June 12. One of the chat leaders Chang Shu-ting, a freshman in the Department of Japanese, said that the chat corner is a perfect chance for exchanges, allowing foreign students to learn the Chinese language through experiencing the life and culture here. An Italian student, who currently studying in the Institute of International Affairs and Strategic Studies, gave high credit to the Chat Corner, saying that it can provide good learning experiences.
Dr. Lee said that the Chat Corner is only one of the many efforts made by the TKU to help international students to better adapt to the life in Taiwan. Others events including Chinese-language signing contest, language courses, are also meant to make these students more comfortable here. ( ~Yeh Yun-kai )
