QUALITY MANAGEMENT OF INSTRUCTIONAL EVALUATION

Question:

Have you fill in the online instructional evaluation survey last week? Some people might think that to go online for the evaluation is troublesome. However, you should not give up the chance as the instructional evaluation survey is an important method to monitor and check on the teaching quality of your teachers.

At its budding stage, the instructional evaluation survey was conducted in paper. But now, thanks to the internet technology, one can log on the web to fill in the survey anytime anywhere, as long as you do it within the evaluation period.

Ms. Q, could you tell me why the school makes this change that make students easier to do instructional evaluation? And what is it to do with TQM or Total Quality Management?

Answer:

In order to give TKU students the best learning environment and to provide them with an easy-to-use evaluation system, the Tamkang University has designed an online instructional evaluation system with the administrative principle of PDCA, which stands for Plan, Do, Check and Act.

?Plan: The school has set up an online instructional evaluation survey system.

?Do: We designed a survey and ask students to fill it in.

?Check: The survey results can help teachers to review his or her teaching methods. It can also serve as a reference that the school authority looks up to regarding the recruitment and dismissal of teachers. The school will also gather information showed in the survey results for improvement in the future.

?Act: We have raised the bar in this year’s survey. All teachers who failed to receive the evaluation score higher than 3.5 (originally 3) will been seen as doing poorly in their teaching and are required to write a report to the school authority. Those who did not do well in the evaluation are also required to improve their teaching skills by joining seminars. If they still don’t do well in the future evaluation, he or she will not receive an extension in their contract next semester.

It is every student’s obligation and rights to join the online evaluation. So remember to go online to fill the evaluation form, a way to express your own view about the performance of your teachers. (~ Yeh Yun-kai )
