Tamkang’s 113th Partner University: Fukuoka Women’s University

Tamkang University recently added one more university to its extensive list of partner institutions. On Nov. 21, 2011, Fukuoka Women’s University (FWU) – a tertiary institute steeped in over eight decades of history – became Tamkang’s 113th sister school. The Dean of International Affairs, Dr. Pei Wha Chi Lee, explained that the recently appointed Board Chairman and President of FWU, Prof. Tisato Kajiyama, previously served as the President of Kyushu University; and that Kyushu University is also one of TKU’s partner institutions. After becoming the President of FWU, Prof. Kajiyama hoped to retain ties with TKU. Therefore, FWU and TKU signed a sister university agreement ensuring ongoing cooperation well into the future.

Fukuoka Women’s University was established in 1923. It is TKU’s first partner university from Japan’s Fukuoka Prefecture. FWU is one of the region’s leading women’s universities, emphasizing English language instruction and international exchange and interaction. Dr. Pei Wha Chi Lee noted that “compared to our other Japanese partner institutions, FWU is located relatively close to Taiwan and there are direct flights from Taipei to Fukuoka. Therefore, this recent partnership signing presents the perfect opportunity for Tamkang students hoping to go to Japan on student exchange”.
