This year, a total of four groups of Tamkang students were chosen to represent Taiwan overseas as international youth ambassadors. Two groups were selected from the Department of Spanish. One of these groups will leave for Spain on June 24 and will be led by the Chair of the Department of Spanish, Dr. Wu Kuan. The other will depart for Argentina at the end of August, to be led by assistant professor Liu Kun Yuan.
The other two groups are comprised of students from the Graduate Institute of the Americas, and are scheduled to visit Washington DC (Group 1) and Nicaragua (Group 2) on June 14 and August 15 respectively.
Last month, a farewell ceremony was held at the Taipei University of Technology as a way of preparing the selected students for their volunteer work overseas. Apart from a flag presentation ceremony, the event also consisted of a symposium in which attendants shared their experiences as overseas volunteers and discussed trends in international youth ambassador programs.
