In order to obtain the certificate of ISO14001 in the 53rd founding anniversary as scheduled, Tamkang University (TKU) ISO14001 Promotion Committee met on May 23 and announced that TKU entered the second-staged training. Colleges other than College of Sciences and of Engineering and the first level of Administrative Units should dispatch a representative for each to take part in the training program. This is to say that ISO14001 is formally promoting to all campuses of TKU.
In the second-staged training, with the exception of Colleges of Sciences and of Engineering, the remaining Colleges including Colleges of Liberal Arts, Business, Foreign Languages and Literature, Education and the first level of Administrative Units including Secretariat, Center for Education Development, Office of Student Affairs, Office of International Exchange and International Education, Chueh-sheng Memorial Library, Information Processing Center, and Office of Research and Development should dispatch their personnel to take part in a month-long training program which began last Friday May 30.
Dr. Flora C. I. Chang, Vice President for Administrative Affairs and concurrently Chairperson of ISO14001 Promoting Committee, said that the promotion of ISO14001 inside the campus lagged slightly behind the schedule. The first-staged training was chiefly for personnel of Colleges of Sciences and Engineering and began last December. The executive unit has carried out seven educational trainings to cultivate working personnel for implementing ISO14001.
Hung Chia-chang, manager of Huantai Engineering Corp., who assists TKU to obtain the certificate of ISO14001, said that ISO14001 would be classified into inside and outside inspections. We will obtain the certificate of ISO14001 if the outside inspection is approved. Therefore, our school has decided at the meeting that the inside environmental inspection ad hoc committee will be divided into six groups to conduct in-campus environmental screening. Chen Kan-nan, Dean of College of Sciences; Chu Shi-chih, Dean of College of Engineering, Yao Jung-tai, Director, Military Training Office; Chiang Hsu-cherng of Department of Water Resources and Environmental Engineering, and Cheng Liao-ping, Chair of Department of Chemical Engineering; and Lee Shih-yuan, Chair of Department of Chemistry, will be appointed as section chiefs of the environmental inspection ad hoc committee.
The ISO14001 Promoting Committee will hold its third meeting in mid-July in which inside inspection ad hoc committees will review the situation of in-campus environmental inspection. School authorities will submit its application for certificate of ISO14001 in August.
