Celebration of the 20th anniversary of Department of Mass Communication (DMC) and annual exhibition of academic results by seniors in Taipei City Government Hall was cancelled last week due to SARS. A scheduled academic result exhibition by graduates on May 3 will remain but in a smaller scale and be held at the department instead.
Prof. Lee Mei-hua, Chair of DMC, said that, concerning the safety of students and parents, the department has been forced to cancel all the scheduled celebration activities at Taipei City Government Hall, despite teachers and students of the department have spare no effort for it. Lee said, “Although students have appealed to her saying that the violinists played until the last moment when Titanic sank, we could not give it up at the critical juncture”. Nevertheless, “I should put safety as priority and cancel the activities,” Lee said.
At the same time, Lee has also cancelled a large-scaled academic achievement exhibition prepared by the 17th class- year seniors of the department scheduled to be held at Taipei City Government Hall in conjunction with the 20th founding anniversary. An in-school exhibition scheduled to be held at the Building of Business and Management on Wednesday was also cancelled. In order not to waste the efforts of the past year, seniors have decided to hold a small-scale exhibition to be held at Room O202 on May 7-8.
