ROC CHINESE LANGUAGE AND CULTURE SOCIETY SET UP TO PROMOTE CHINESE LANGUATE TO INTERNATIONAL STAGE

The Republic of China Chinese Language and Culture Society promoted by the Department of Chinese, TKU was formally established on Oct. 9. Prof. Lu Kuo-ping was elected as President of the newly established society.

Lu said that the objective of the society is to promote the study of Chinese language, to study its theory and its internal meaning so as to increase the research in depth and upgrade the standard of study. The Chinese language and culture is an applied language science and a combination of the traditional and contemporary Sinology. Lu hoped that the society would demonstrate its special feature and integrate with the society so as to further promote it to the international stage.

As to the future research direction, Lu said that the academic research will be mainly on the cultural study and hoped that the study tentacle of Chinese language will go into more depth and width.

In addition to the faculty and students of Department of Chinese and other departments, TKU, more than 100 scholars from the United States, Canada, Japan, Korea, Mainland China, Singapore and Sweden also joined the society, he said, adding that those who are interested in the society will be highly welcomed as the society is an international society.

The convention will be held every year and the society will also hold symposia or meeting and publish proceedings. As to the work plan, in addition to setting up Web station and sorting out data of membership, the society plans to jointly sponsor the “Second TKU Global Sister Universities’ Chinese Language and Cultural Academic Meeting” with Department of Chinese, and the would-be-Graduate Institute of Chinese Language and Documentary Resources, TKU Lu said.

Prof. Lu also reveals that the “Republic of China Ancient Document Society will be established soon.

Lu hoped that TKU will serve as founding base by combining the efforts of Department of Chinese, the Graduate Institute of Chinese Language and Documentary Resources and the Chinese Language and Culture Society to further promote Chinese Language and Culture and Documentary Resources development in the international stage.
