ECONOMIC OFFICIALS CONFIRM GOOD PERFORMANCE OF CHAMPION INCUBATION CENER

A five-member delegation from the Medium and Small Business Administration of the Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA) visited the Champion Incubation Center, TKU on Oct. 3.

Members of the delegation include Lan Min-tsung, Tseng Da-yu, Lai Po-hsien, Liu Su-ling and Wu Yung-fang.

After hearing the briefing of the Center, members of the delegation confirmed the good performance of the Center in the past year. “You have successfully helped many enterprises tap new products and obtain patent right,” they said.

TKU President Chang Horng-jinh, Vice President for Administrative Affairs Dr. Flora C. I. Chang, Dean of the College of Science Chen Kan-nan, Director of the R&D Office Lin Kuang-nan were also present at the meeting.

President Chang said that TKU has made her best efforts to promote research and development program and obtain the patent right as well as transfer the technology to private enterprises. TKU has already set up the Life Science Development Center and the Center will expand to a college level on Lanyang Campus, Ilan, in 2004.

Stressing that the biotech will be the direction of TKU’s future development, Chang said that TKU is currently holding talks on a cooperation program with Makay Memorial Hospital to conduct the medical research and development.

Kao Hue-chuen, Director of the Center, said that the Center has rendered its assistance to 17 private enterprises this year and said that at present, the Center has completed its assistance to 14 enterprises. She believed that the Center would achieve the projected goal of 18 enterprises at the end of this year.

Under the assistance of the Center, many enterprises have broken through their technical bottleneck. For instance, the AC3/decoder mini DVD system developed and produced by the Kuochi Network Co. Ltd. won the elite medal of Taiwan product. A bullet probe fiber developed by the Utop Technology Co. Ltd. has obtained NT$3.9 Million subsidies from the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

Meanwhile, the visitors suggested that the staff members of the Center be integrated into the staff members of TKU and the Center be led by a head of the Administrative Unit.
