【Reported by Qiao-ting Zhao, Jing-ya Su, Yi-jun Yang, Tamkang Times】In order to cultivate students’ professional career ability, capacity and understanding of the market trends, Tamkang University has designed majors that cover multiple departments and career industries related to the world market. Tamkang University is offering academic study and research that crosses into the fields of technology, science and engineering that assess the industrial world as part of the educational curriculum. Currently TKU’s cross-curriculum program contains 40 credits and has enrolled 300 students that have chosen to major in such related fields. This semester the College of Engineering has offered courses for smartphone technology and eagerly anticipates cultivating students for the industry of robotics development and design.
Dean of the College of Engineering pointed out, “For the education of robotics not only will students have to learn skills from electrical engineering, they will also have to have skills from architecture and design. This is the purpose for having different departments work together. It is a necessity for students to be able to utilize the resources from various fields of study. I’m also excited to see what developments will be achieved through the research of cooperating professors.”
In previous years, many students have been attracted to the Cultural Innovation Industry course, which is one of the cross-curriculum courses. It is a culmination of the college of humanities as well as information from five different related fields. All students are encouraged to take these courses in order to give them an extra edge in the career world. Third-year student from the Department of Public Administration, Ru-yi Cai, stated, “There are a lot of interesting courses to choose from that are not in my major. It will be great to be able to get information from different courses.”
