TKU WINS SIX OUTSTANDING AWARDS IN IC DESIGN CONTEST SPONSORED BY THE MINISTRY OF EDUCATION

Students of Tamkang University chalked up six outstanding awards in "the Collegiate Integrated Circuit (IC) Design Contest" for the 2001-2002 academic year sponsored by the Ministry of Education, ROC in June, tying for the first place with National Taiwan University (NTU).

A group of 37 students of the Department of Electrical Engineering led by Prof. Jiang Cheng-hsiung, chair of the department, took part in the contest along with 258 teams from the universities and full-fledged colleges around the country. Due to the excellent performance, TKU students won seven teams out of 38 teams in the second round contest, just one behind the eight- team winner, NTU.

The outstanding performance by the TKU students became catching eye events in the contest.

Winners of the award will leave for Taitung, the eastern part of Taiwan on Aug. 13 to attend the award presentation ceremony hosted by the Ministry of Education, Republic of China.

Winners and Items are listed as follows:

Undergraduate Section: Special Outstanding Award on " Full Customers' Design": Chen Chih-ning and Hsu Kuo-jen; Outstanding Award: Chen Chao-an and Sung Yu-in and Fine Award: Hsu Shih-shun and Tu Chia-ming.

Graduate section: Chen Hsin-liang and Ying Chen-ming won the Outstanding Award on "Full Customers' Design" and the Fine Award by Liu Ta-wei and Lee Wen-shuan. Graduate-Undergraduate Section: the Fine Award won by Chen Chi-che and Hsu Shih-suan on the "Analog Circuit Design".

Ying Chen-ming, one of the winners, said that in addition to testing the individual’s quality, the contest has also provided the contestants a best place and chance to exchange experiences with the contestants from Japan and Korea. Liu Ta-wei, the third time participant at the contest and the first time winner, also shared the same view with his classmate Ying. "I should render my heartfelt thanks to Prof. Cheng Kuo-hsing for his strict training and practices laid on me in the ordinary time", Liu added.
