TKU Holds Forum to Discuss Taiwan and Vietnam Relations

【Reported by Bo-xian Lu, Tamkang Times】On May 27th the College of International Research held a forum to discuss, “The Developing Relationship Between Taiwan and Vietnam.” Dean of the College of International Research, Wan-chin Tai, invited Dean of the Graduate Institute of Asian Studies, Yao-ting Jen, and Dean of the Graduate Institute of International Affairs and Strategic Studies, Ming-hsien Wong. Wan-chin Tai expressed, “This forum is focused on the recent violent events that have been taking place between Taiwanese and Vietnamese businesses and methods that can be used to resolve these problems.”

The academic forum covered areas of academics, politics, labor, culture, and historical background. Professor from the Graduate Institute of Asian Studies, Ching-lung Tsay, expressed, “Every serious issue needs exploration from many angles before being able to find the most suitable solution. The cultural difference of Vietnam and Taiwan will put completely different perspectives on how the issue should be resolved.” First year student from the Graduate Institute of American Studies, Bang Xu, stated, “My reason for participating in this event aside from my personal concern is to learn about the political climate between our two countries.”
