【Reported by Yi-mei Chen, Tamkang Times】The winners of America’s 2015 Newman Prize for Chinese Literature were announced last month on the 19th. Tien-wen Chu, alumni from the Department of English, not only received first place in the category of female authors, she is the second Taiwanese author to receive this award. For her first place prize, she also received 10,000 dollars US and was invited to the University of Oklahoma for an award ceremony taking place on March 6th. Tien-wen Chu also received the Golden Horse award for her novel “Growing Up”, which was made into a film in by director Hsiao-Hsien Hou in 1983.
